1. Be kind.

Once you are into your 50s and older, then you have already started to notice the need for more friends in your life. But you’ve probably also noticed the greater need for mutual support.

Maybe you have been the one to wrangle up a group of friends to help the recently widowed church member take care of her yard.

A mature woman wants a man who is kind and caring more than she wants the cocky guy in his 30s, whom she now just finds tedious and immature.

The biggest social skill that seems to have declined with you is your ability to dial a phone.

You lost so much information by opting for text. You would have known where you stood by her vocal tone and other conversations subjects on the phone. Instead you are left to protect any meaning you like on cold typed words.

You told me you felt anxious on the date and my suspicion is that feeling is what’s detecting a chill in her text.

My advice: Wait a week. Then pick up the phone. You’ll have much more info then.

I applaud your dedication to your children. Too many divorced parents drag their kids through their romantic trials and the poor kids are left shell-shocked by the revolving door of parental figures.

But it sounds like your kids are older and you are ready to treat yourself to a fulfilling adult relationship.

My biggest suggestion is to get involved in the world and you will meet like-minded men.

You might consider starting a business, getting involved with your church or temple or embarking on some community activity that puts you face to face with your peers. Join a gym, a wine tasting or travel club.

Particles in motion attract other particles in motion.

And remember to make yourself attractive. Men and women look for the same traits in mates: health, loyalty, kindness and intelligence. Improve your mind and your body to improve your mood and let the light shine from you.
