Most men struggle with the holidays. First, you have to actually remember it’s a significant day of the year. Second, you have to come up with a thoughtful gift to get that special lady in your life.
Here is a rundown of the important anniversary milestones and some advice on what to get your girlfriend.
The three-month mark.
The two of you know each other well enough that she’s probably mentioned by now a few things she likes or would like to do.
Concert tickets are a great gift, even if it’s a musical act you’re not exactly pumped to go see.
If you’re really struggling for a specific gift idea, then go with a bouquet of flowers and a spa gift certificate. A man can never go wrong with a mani/pedi, massage or facial.
The six-month mark.
When you hit the six-month mark, your relationship is officially “serious.” Therefore, a night or two away is a great way to celebrate this milestone.
It doesn’t have to be fancy. Choose a destination that’s a few hours away and have a couple of ideas formulated on where to eat out and an attraction or two to hit up.
“No matter how long the two of you have been
together, celebrating an anniversary is important.”
The year mark.
Once you and your girlfriend have successfully made it to the one-year mark, an anniversary gift doesn’t have to come with a price tag.
At this point in your relationship, she’s probably looking for commitment. If you’re ready and you’re pretty sure she’s ready, then take it to the next level.
If you don’t already live together, wrap up a key to your place with a note that says, “My home should feel like your home. I love you.” and clean out some space (i.e. drawers, medicine cabinet, closet, etc.) so she knows she’s always wanted.
The two-year mark.
By this point, you most likely know if she’s “The One.” Plan a weeklong getaway — again, within your price range — to a destination you know means something special to her.
The lake where she used to vacation as a kid, her hometown or a tropical island she’s always wanted to go to are all good ideas.
When you celebrate two years together, it’s not about giving her things. It’s about giving yourself and showing that you’re thoughtful and anticipatory.
No matter how long the two of you have been together, celebrating an anniversary is important. Not because it’s an excuse to buy each other things, but because it’s a chance to let the other person know how much you care about them.
