I’m in Love With My Ex-Girlfriend. What Should I Do?

Reader Question:

I am still in love with my ex-girlfriend who I broke up with due to her dealings with drugs and cheating. She will not take me back but tells me she will come back one day, she misses me, still loves me and promises she “won’t mess it up next time.”

What should I do?

-Shawn (North Carolina)

Dr. Wendy Walsh’s Answer:

We all think we can return to the rosy days of a previous love relationship, but most often we return quickly to the worse of days. The best prediction of someone’s future behavior is their past behavior. I wouldn’t count on her being a completely different person if she returns to you.

Yea, you’re just a little hung up on the girl, imagine yourself with a beautiful girl who won’t cheat on you, loves you and respects you enough not to endanger herself with drugs and stuff. “Plenty of fish in the sea!”
