Come Together With Others to Help Water.org Realize Its Goal of Bringing Water & Sanitation to the World

Sean Garrity Sean Garrity • 5/24/17

The Short Version: For more than 663 million people globally, clean water is a luxury — not a right. Since 1990, Water.org has been working to change this and put an end to the world’s water and sanitation crisis. By partnering with socially conscious individuals, you can help the organization make a difference in the lives of millions. To get involved, volunteers can donate money, make a small loan, organize fundraisers, or become influencers on social media to educate others about this problem affecting so many. With your support, you can assist Water.org in installing solutions for those who lack the barest necessities and connect with new people while you’re at it.

Living in the developed world, we enjoy countless amenities granted by modern technology, and access to essentials, like water and sanitation, is never top of mind. Sadly, this is not the case for a large number of people around the globe. In 2015, upwards of 663 million people lacked viable drinking water and an astounding 2.4 billion were living without workable sanitation facilities.

Lack of access to clean water threatens the safety, health, and economic well-being of the affected regions. For more than 25 years, Water.org has been actively working to end this crisis. The organization operates with a mission to break the cycle of poverty created by shortages of potable water and proper sanitation.

Since its founding, the international nonprofit has helped more than 6 million people around the world gain access to drinkable water through self-sustaining infrastructure. But Water.org doesn’t do it alone.

The organization relies on the help of charitable individuals and those interested in making small loans who throw fundraising events and help spread the word about the nonprofit’s efforts through social media. By getting involved, socially conscious people can connect with other like-minded people to help Water.org transform lives and positively impact communities.

A Mission to Transform Lives Through Safe & Accessible Water

Water is a fundamental human need essential not only to sustain life but also the social, economic, and general health of society. Water.org’s goal is to ensure everyone in the world has these basics by ending the water crisis and pushing communities into health and prosperity.

Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org works with a network of verified, in-country partners to help communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean provide clean water and sanitation. The nonprofit’s philosophy is centered on creating self-sustaining solutions that empower communities to manage, operate, and maintain infrastructure through financial and organizational foundations.

Water.org does this through searching for and vetting the right local partners and participants. The organization links poor people to local financial institutions that offer small, affordable loans to those who need financing for household water and sanitation solutions. On a larger scale, Water.org focuses on global advocacy and research to make clean water a reality for the entire world.

Get Involved & Share Experiences with Like-Minded People

There are many ways to get involved with Water.org, transform the lives of others, and work with people who have the same passion. Finding information about some of these opportunities takes a few simple mouse clicks. Whether you want to donate money, invest, or spread Water.org’s message, there’s an array of opportunities for you to be a part of the generation that ends the global water and sanitation crisis.

Concerned individuals can easily make a donation or loan and bring clean water to a community, and businesses can give a percentage of earnings as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives. Individuals and groups can start a fundraiser or organize a race to raise money for clean, safe water for the world.

If you’re savvy at social media, you can help spread the word about the water crisis and promote Water.org’s efforts to end it. Organize a Fundraiser in Your Community for a Good Cause

If running a race isn’t your idea of a good time, but you still want to gather your community to raise money for a great cause, sign up to hold your own fundraiser. Maybe your passion for food leads you to a Foodie Fundraiser where you host an elaborate potluck dinner party, and the admission is a donation to Water.org. You can also just set up an online fundraiser without all the extras to help end the water crisis for people all over the world.

If organizing isn’t your strong suit, you can contribute time and money to existing fundraisers. Check out Cash’s 2nd Caramel Corn for Clean Water campaign where people can donate and share on Facebook or Twitter to promote it.

Donations to Water.org Directly Improve Quality of Life for Millions

Sometimes, when you donate money, you wonder if your hard-earned dollars and cents are going to communities that need it. Water.org is an excellent steward of the donations it receives. Several major institutions, including the IKEA Foundation, PepsiCo Foundation, and the MasterCard Foundation, support the nonprofit’s work and trust it with their charitable dollars.

Donations of time and money to Water.org positively transform the lives of millions of people.

Water.org also has a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator and meets all of the BBB’s Standards for Charitable Solicitations. What’s even more impressive is Water.org holds a Best in America seal of excellence from the Independent Charities of America, a distinction only 2% of charities claim.

Water.org’s WaterCredit program puts dollars directly into the hands of those who desperately need it through microloans. And the organization’s New Ventures Fund is a source of innovative funding that helps find ways to fix the underlying causes of the water crisis.

Investing to Empower People and Transform Lives

Experts project that it would take donations of $200 billion a year over five years to end the global water and sanitation crisis. Currently, annual aid amounts to just $8 billion. WaterEquity, Water.org’s social impact investing arm, unlocks global capital markets to help close the gap.

Over 663 million people live without access to clean water — it’s a big number. But Water.org is helping reduce it every day thanks to contributions from volunteers and charitable donors.

So pull together your squad and connect with other caring people to help Water.org directly impact communities around the world.
