How Do I Make a Long-Distance Relationship Work?

Long-distance relationships are a challenge but they can be done. In many ways, a long-distance relationship is much more enjoyable than the one that affords a couple the opportunities to see each other every day. It’s like the old saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

When two people are only able to see each other on occasion, it makes those occasions that much more special and intimate. Long-distance relationships require a unique type of commitment, defined expectations and unmistakable boundaries. For instance, is monogamy a must, or is it OK to see other people?

Furthermore, each party must be willing to stay in regular phone communication and set aside the time and money necessary to facilitate regular visits. Keep in mind, you will eventually come to a crossroads and have to decide whether one is going to move closer to the other. If neither is willing to budge, the relationship is never going to be more than what it is.
