5 Words That Shouldn’t Be in Your Dating Profile

As a follow-up to my recent article on the “5 Words That Should Be in Your Dating Profile,” it’s time to revisit the Wired magazine infographic keywords to make sure your online dating profile doesn’t look like everyone else’s.

In a review of the top 1,000 most popular keywords on OkCupid, here are some, which appeared at the bottom of the list, that you just might want to remove from your profile and replace with others to catch his or her digital eye.

1. My cats

Many of us have watched the viral videos of women with their cats. While they’re amusing to view, statistically just using the word “cats” to talk about your feline friends is more appealing than saying “my cats” and posting a photo.

2. Drama

While you might enjoy watching high drama films or television shows, the word “drama” sends a message that you can be a drama queen. It’s at the bottom of the list, so nix it from your profile, pretty please.

3. Girl friends

While some guys are proud that they have many female friends and it’s a great trait to have, too many refer to their girl friends in their profiles.

This sends the message that you could be a player, even if you’re just friends without benefits.

“Karaoke is not a sexy word

to include in your profile.”

4. Retirement

While it’s no secret men want to date attractive women and women want to date men who are financially secure or on their way to a happy retirement someday, the use of the word in a woman’s profile is a complete turn-off to men.

It screams gold digger, so don’t say you’re looking for a man who’s retired or has a retirement fund. You’ll be surprised how many women actually do include it in their profiles.

5. Karaoke

While you think suggesting going to a karaoke bar would be a great date idea, according to the Wired article, your date would prefer that you keep your singing to the shower.

It’s not a sexy word to be included in your online dating profile.

Other tips include changing your primary photo from time to time to make your profile appear like it’s fresh and brand new. Outdated photos will send a message to a potential date that you’re still looking and haven’t found someone in years.

Don’t forget to log on to your dating site on Sundays, as Sunday evening is primetime for those with a little down time or after having a weekend of dates that went south.
