When you sign up for Match, like most dating sites, asks you to provide a username that’ll appear on your profile as well as in the site’s search results. It can be pretty intimidating — you want something short, funny, and eye-catching, but it should also be something that accurately describes you. My palms are starting to sweat just thinking about the pressure.
Don’t worry, though, because you aren’t stuck with the first username you come up with. If you happen to pick something horrible, like Michael Scott did with “Little Kid Lover,” Match allows you to change it at any time. Here’s how it’s done:
1. Click on the Gear Icon of Your Match Dashboard, Which Can Be Found in the Top-Right Corner
This may be pretty obvious, but the first thing you want to do is log into Match. No matter where you are on the site or app (your profile, the Matches page, your messages, etc.), you can look in the top-right corner and see a little graphic that looks like a cog. Click or tap on it, and you’ll be taken to your account settings. Here, in addition to changing your username, you can do things like adjust your email preferences, location, or subscription type.
2. Click “Sign Up Information” Toward the Bottom Left
Scroll or look down the page a little bit, and you’ll see the words “Sign Up Information” on the left-hand side. Click on those words, and Match will then ask you to provide your birthday (month, day, and year) and password.
You’ll also have to check a box that says “I’m not a robot.” This is just to confirm that it’s actually you who’s making these changes, not a scammer.
3. Change Your Username
The next step is to decide what you want your new username to be. It could just be your first name, which is pretty common because when singles sign up for Match, that’s the first thing the site asks for. If you want to do something more creative, though, we have some tips for choosing a username in this article.
4. Click “Continue”
Once you’re happy with your new username, all you have to do is click “Continue,” and all of your changes will be saved. If you ever want to change your username again, go through the same process we just took you through. If, for some reason, you’re experiencing problems, you can always contact Match via the contact form or by emailing support@Match.com.
Enjoy Your New Username!
Match strives to take all the work off its members’ shoulders, even when it comes to editing or updating profiles and personal information. Never hesitate to change your Match username, because you can do so within a matter of seconds. Happy dating!
