iHookup: Review of the Site & App, Plus the Best Alternative

Hayley Matthews Hayley Matthews • 6/21/17

There’s an episode in the second season of “Master of None” called “First Date,” and in it, Aziz Ansari’s Dev goes on several first dates with women he met on a dating app.

They order drinks and swap introductory facts, and then the conversation turns to what it’s like being a woman on Love at First Sight, the show’s made-up dating app. The women share stories with Dev about receiving dick pics, photos of handwritten notes about their breasts, and messages from men who have a fetish for their ethnicity (e.g., Asian, Hispanic, and Filipino).

This is something that actually happens in real life, and maybe what some people don’t realize is the time that can be saved and the rejection that can be avoided by using an app or site that’s strictly for finding sex. iHookup.com, which was created in 2011, is one of them. Below is everything you need to know about it as well as another popular option for you to consider.

iHookup Review | The Alternative

iHookup Has a Targeted But Small User Base

The iHookup journey (for desktop and mobile) starts out as do many others, which makes the process super easy and quick whether you’re an avid online dater or not. You’ll need to input your gender, date of birth, country, city/zip code, username, email, and password — as well as your preferred gender, age, and encounter (casual, friends with benefits, discreet romance, dating, online fun, or activity partners).

The next page is where you’ll provide your relationship status (single, attached, or couple), sexual orientation (straight, gay, or bisexual), ethnicity (Asian, black, Hispanic/Latin, East Indian, Mixed/Other, Middle Easterners, Native American, Pacific Islander, or white), height (from 4 feet to 7’11”), and body type (a few extra pounds, athletic and toned, average, big and beautiful, curvy where it counts, disabled, heavyset, large, muscular, slim/slender, or prefer not to say).

The following sections include About You (where you’ll choose things like your occupation, education, and religion), You’re Looking For (where you’ll choose things like your desired sexual orientation, location, and relationship status) and Your Photos (where you’ll upload, well, your photos). iHookup uses a percentage to show how much of your profile you’ve completed and advises you to fill everything out.

Founded in 2011, iHookup sees more than 210,00 visitors a month, and while they’re all looking for casual sex, it’s a small audience compared to other sites.

The Recent Activity page is where most of the action happens. Here, you’ll see dozens of match recommendations that include their username, location, and main profile photo. You can either like them or send them a flirt or message right there. If you want to know more, click their photo to go to their full profile. The site also sends pop-ups when someone views your profile, so you can find connections that way, too.

At the top of your dashboard, you’ll see sections for Messages, Hookups, Search, Faves, Live Chat, Live Shows, Meet Cam Grlz, R Rated, and Support, among others.

All of this is free, and iHookup offers premium features for a small fee. These include Passion and Forecast Reports, which cost 99 cents and $5.95, respectively. Your customized Passion report will give you insights into your personality and the type of lover you are/need. Your customized three-month Forecast Report provides insights into “the tone of each month so you have all the information you need to plan ahead.”

In terms of its user base, Similar Web says iHookup gets about 210,000 monthly visits, which is smaller than what you might find on other sex sites. Another thing we’re not fans of on iHookup is all the ads — they’re pretty distracting.

In addition to drawing our own conclusions, we found some user reviews that might be helpful in deciding if iHookup is right for you.

Brent T. Poss wrote on Amazon: “I have met about a dozen people in person, and things have been great. I never used to be a big fan of online dating, but now, after finding this app, it’s hard for me to even imagine not using it to find people to hook up with!”

On the flip side, Vitaly Timofeyev posted on ComplaintsBoard.com: “Paid for the ihookup.com site and, like everyone says, a bunch a phone emails and flirts from fake people. None of the messages were answered pertaining to the subject, and nobody had a personality or character, so it really looks like they have people working for them and just running artificial profiles to suck your money out of you.”

The Best Alternative to iHookup

Our main complaint about iHookup is its size, which is why we’re recommending an alternative for you to try: AdultFriendFinder.com. Not only does the site receive more than 25.5 million visitors a month, but it also has 77 million users. That’s exponential compared to what you’ll find on iHookup. Similar to iHookup, Adult Friend Finder is mobile friendly, so dating on the go is just as seamless as it is from your laptop.

Here are some other key stats and facts about Adult Friend Finder that our experts have gathered:

3.5/5.0

Relationships: Hookups Only

Match System: Search by location, interest, more

Our Experts Say: “Make no mistake: this site isn't about making friends, it's about short-term "hookups" and affairs only. Note that a basic account costs $14.95/month, but it's well worth it if casual sex is your goal...”

Note: Today’s Deal says that Adult Friend Finder costs $14.95 a month, but that’s if you have a premium membership. It’s not required, though. A free membership, which never expires, has a lot of features that will help singles, couples, and swingers find their ideal sex partner in no time. These include registration, profile creation and photo upload, browsing, match suggestions, virtual flirting, and certain types of communication.

iHookup: Just One Destination for Frisky Singles to Add to Their List!

While the women in “Master of None” may have gotten a chuckle at some of the sexual messages they received, they weren’t going to respond because they were looking for dates or someone to be in a relationship with. That’s why, if you’re only interested in sex, it’s best to use a hookup site or app — where everyone is on the same page and you can get right to it. We’d say there’s more good than bad to be found on iHookup, but treat online dating as you would an all-you-can-eat buffet and try as many things as you can, including Adult Friend Finder.
