Twenty-somethings aren’t the only ones flocking to online dating sites. New research suggests senior citizens are quickly becoming the largest group looking for love online.
Coming out of Bowling Green State University, the research discovered seniors were not only joining online dating sites at record rates, but seniors were also approaching online dating differently than younger people.
“Seniors were joining online dating sites at record
rates and approaching online dating differently.”
The results, which were recently presented at a Gerontology conference, suggest seniors are “more interested in honest self-representation and being compatible rather than discussing areas such as sexual prowess and nightlife.”
In addition, seniors using online dating sites also often acknowledge their age but refer to themselves as “young at heart” and “active.”
Researchers said seniors, especially senior women, take a “don’t waste my time” approach to finding a match.
“They are less likely to play games,” said professor Dr. Charlie Stelle. “They want to make a decision quickly and cut their losses because they have learned life is too short for dating games.”
