Do you think men are simple creatures who just daydream about women, sports and their stomachs? Think again.

Here are six things single and taken women should know about men:

1. Men are sensitive too.

The most surprising thing about working for an online dating site was finding out men are a lot more sensitive than we are led to believe.

Beyond the bravado you see in public are big, burly men who want to know if a woman fancies them or if they are just being played.

If you really like a guy, tell him and don’t keep him guessing, as men are sensitive too!

2. Men worry about their looks too.

While you may have thought weight was a female issue, it seems more and more men are worried about their looks.

According to a recent study, 21% of men said their looks affect how sexy they feel and the most common body worry for men was looking too thin.

“Beyond the bravado you see are men

who want to know a woman fancies them.”

3. Men need compliments too.

You wouldn’t think twice about complimenting your female friend’s new dress, but for some reason it seems odd to compliment your male friends on their new shirt.

Compliments don’t have to be physical of course. “You make the best barbecue” is a winner (assuming they do).

4. Friendship counts.

If you’ve been daydreaming about dating your male friend but are worried you are in “the friend zone,” worry no more.

Research shows men still view their female friends as potential dates, even if they have been friends for many years.

In fact, men were more likely to be attracted to female friends who they thought might fancy them.

5. Men are more likely to say the L-word first.

Women are meant to be the ones who are obsessed with falling in love, but it is in fact men who are more likely to say “I love you” first.

On average men say the L-word after three months of being with a woman, while a woman normally takes an average of five months to say it.

6. His hobbies mean a lot to him.

If your man loves playing the guitar or fishing, don’t dismiss it as a silly hobby.

You don’t have to share his hobby (in fact, he probably wants something to enjoy on his own), but it’s important to encourage and support his passion.

Ladies, did you learn anything new about men? What other surprising things have you found out about men over your lifetime? I’d love to hear what you think!

When it comes to choosing an outfit for dates number one, two or three (or even dressing for a coffee meet and greet), you want to make a good first impression!

Surprisingly, women subconsciously dress for other women rather than “for” men, per se.

That said, if you want to make a head-turning first impression, it might be time to develop a strategy for how to dress to make an impression on the relationship-ready guy you’re trying to attract.

The key thing to remember is men don’t pay as much attention to the label on your top. Instead, their focus is on how well it fits you.

After all, men are visual creatures. The way you present yourself physically will make a lasting impression.

Your first priority should be dressing for yourself and making sure you feel good, but here are a few tips on how to dress for a Mr. Right. Dating with Dignity breaks it down here.

1. Don’t forget to button your shirt!

A little cleavage can be sexy, but wearing a super deep V-neck or letting it “all hang out” on a first date is a recipe for your date to spend most of his time thinking about the possibility of you landing in his bed later.

In fact, relationship-ready men who we interviewed told us, “Do us a favor. If you want us to focus on your awesome personality, please don’t distract us with too much skin!”

Of course, if you’re not looking for a serious relationship, then this rule need not apply.

There’s no need to keep your body under total wraps. We’re not suggesting you dress like a nun – simply that you leave ‘em curious to help ensure you get a second date.

“A hint of skin will get a man to pay

attention to what you do and say.”

2. Try a little make under.

The key to making sure your makeup looks flawless when you’re figuring out how to dress for a guy is to ensure you don’t overdo it.

A little red lipstick can go a long way, but putting on so much makeup that it looks like you dipped your face in a bowl of cake batter concealer won’t make you look super appealing to your date (or a future date).

A fresh face with a pop of color is great, so keep your makeup fresh and simple.

3. Don’t over-accessorize.

As Coco Chanel famously said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Don’t show up to your date with seven necklaces, bangles on each wrist and a ring on each finger.

Everyone is entitled to their own style, of course. And if boho chic is yours, you’re welcome to wear what you wish. However, keep in mind too many accessories can lead a man to believe you’re just too high maintenance.

Instead, choose one signature piece that can be a potential conversation starter or one that makes you feel especially sexy. From your power pumps to a simple sexy necklace, remember that less is more.

4. Legs, legs, legs.

A hint of skin will get a man to pay attention to much of what you do and say. If you feel comfortable, a skirt or shorts paired with a classy top can work wonders. Add some heels to this outfit and you’re set.

Just make sure you aren’t wearing heels with thousands of spikes or shoes that make you unable to walk after an hour. He just might head for the hills – and you won’t be able to keep up!

A classic pump or wedge will accent your legs and give you those extra few inches of confidence.

Dress for the three Cs: comfort, class and confidence. We doubt you’ll have a problem impressing a guy if you come equipped with those tools!

Ladies, what makes you feel comfortable and sexy on a date? Do you have a go-to outfit to make a good impression? We’d love to hear your personal style tips!

We coach thousands of people every year in their relationships and one of the most popular questions we get from the ladies is, “How do I keep my man into me and not be another cheating statistic?”

As two straight male experts, the ladies are always eager to step into our complex male brains to uncover the answer to this great question.

Below are some of our top tips on how to keep your man in your bed.

1. Embrace your sexiness and don’t hold back.

Men tell us all the time they would prefer an overweight woman with a ton of sexual confidence over a model-type that lacks confidence in her body or in the bedroom.

Regardless of your body type, age or station in life, ALL women have something inside that is sexy and it must come out with their man.

Remember, confidence is key. Men love female swagger.

Sometimes this might mean getting out of your comfort zone by wearing something sexy you don’t find attractive at all but he very well may.

It might mean whispering something to him in the bedroom that is out of the ordinary for you but watching his reaction.

It might mean engaging in activities you are unfamiliar with, but communicate with him about these so you can identify fun things to do together.

We had a lady at our event who had never hiked before but her boyfriend loved hiking.

“Things that keep the man’s ego fed go

much further than a ‘freak in the sheets.’”

She got out of her comfort zone, didn’t hold back, surprisingly enjoyed it and even shared that her man is so much more relaxed and open when he is hiking with her. Now it is a weekly ritual for them.

Communication is important in this area because you don’t want to guess. Simply ask him.

2. Be interested in his work and hobbies.

Many women miss this one all together.

It’s one thing to ask him, “So how was your day at work today?” It’s an entirely different and powerful conversation on your next date night to ask him, “So what do you find most challenging about your job?”

Another great question to ask him, “What do you love MOST about ______ (pick a hobby, interest or aspect of his job)?”

We call these questions “separators” because they will separate you from other women he has ever experienced in his life.

Guys love to talk about themselves and their accomplishments, so hand them the “soap box” and let them step on up.

Ladies, have fun with these and remember relationships are a two-way street. It’s equally important you share your own road map to success with him so he can keep you interested and turned on.

Notice how these secrets do NOT revolve around sex like so many women think. Trust us, little and consistent things that keep the man’s ego fed go much further than a “freak in the sheets.”

Ladies, which tips from part one or part two did you find most helpful for keeping your man in your bed?

Do women or men want children more? A new study found men want children almost as much as women.

In a study presented at an annual conference of the British Sociological Association, 63 percent of women and 59 percent of men said they wanted children.

Researcher Robin Hadley, of Keele University, found men were significantly more likely to suffer depression, feelings of isolation, anger, jealousy and sadness because they didn’t have children. Women were more likely to experience yearning or guilt from being childless.

“Sixty-three percent of women and 59

percent of men said they wanted children.”

The study also found men were more likely to feel social and cultural pressures to have kids, while women felt biological urges and personal desire.

“There is very little research on the desire for fatherhood among men. My work shows that there was a similar level of desire for parenthood among childless men and women,” Hadley said. “This challenges the common idea that women are much more likely to want to have children than men and that they consistently experience a range of negative emotions more deeply if they don’t have children.”

New research shows what you find most attractive in a partner might be best reflected in a mirror.

A recent study published by France’s Institut des Sciences de l’Evolution gathered 100 male participants and showed them an assortment of photographs of women, asking the men to rate the women on their attractiveness.

The men were then shown a selection of four photographs of new women, which included photos of women whose faces had been digitally manipulated to look more like the participating males. Within the second experiment, researchers revealed 37 percent of the males rated the face looking the most like their own as the most attractive.

“Thirty-seven percent of males said the face that

closest resembled their own was the most attractive.”

The study’s researchers also looked at a selection of married couples, finding these couples shared more facial similarity with each other than with randomly selected individuals. Facial similarities were compared by looking at traits like eye color, hair color, thickness of the eyebrows and lips, dimples and other visible features.

The findings of this recent study correspond with the findings of similar studies, including a 2008 study determining men were likely to find a woman attractive if that woman resembled his mother and women were likely to find a man attractive if he resembled her father.

There’s no guarantee you will be able to get him to truly like many other sports if he’s an “all football all the time” kind of guy. You will never like Home Depot as much as DSW or the strip mall on the corner as much as the Galleria. There are just qualitative and stylistic differences that can’t be replicated.

But it’s worth a shot. The way we learn to like something is to understand it. The way you get him to agree to sit through or play the sport of your choice so you can explain the fabulous little details to him is to watch an entire football game with him and let him explain it to you, play by play and down by down.

Don’t insult or denigrate the football game. You have to respect his game if you want him to respect yours.

Let’s say you want to get him interested in playing golf with you. Turn on a PGA tournament and sit down with him. Tell him how they have to look at the length of the fairway, the bends in the course, the hills and valleys, the rough, the trees, the wind, the sand, and water hazards.

Help him find some of the same strategy he loves about football in the game you love. All games have strategy and plays. They just come together in different ways.

You might have to bribe him with his favorite dinner or something else he likes to get him to sit down with you, and you should go into the golf match (or basketball game or whatever) with a bit of understanding about his beloved game of football so you can draw parallels he will understand and appreciate.

It’s best if you can get him to commit to sitting through the whole game so he will have to give it a fair shot. (Give the football game a fair shot, too!)

In 1971, a marketing campaign for Loving Care’s “Nice & Easy” hair color hit the airwaves with words for women that were worth millions of dollars in product sales: “You’re not getting older; you’re getting better.”

The campaign was so successful and memorable not because it told older women what they wanted to hear, but because it struck a chord of truth that had been ignored for far too long.

Until then, women’s liberation had been the exclusive territory of young and upcoming women. But seven simple words reminded women of every age that they were still vital and worthwhile human beings with much to offer.

Millions of women found new vigor and zest for life by simply coloring their gray hair to a more youthful shade and giving up the granny fashions for those that exuded more power and value.

Today, women routinely stay engaged in careers and meaningful roles until retirement and well beyond. And senior men could not be more delighted with the pool of women in their peer group.

When it comes to senior women, what’s not to like?

1. Maturity has its perks.

Men are all too familiar with the feeling that they are valued less just as they reach the peak of their knowledge and ability.

When they should be running the company, they are relegated to subordinate roles under some clueless young newbie with a freshly minted MBA or farmed off to a smaller location or into retirement. It’s senseless, but it’s the reality in the business place way too often.

Women are often written off in their careers for the same reason, but their social value also depends much more on youth and beauty than a man’s.

While that may be true to TV advertisers and casting agents, it is not at all true for the men their own age. They fully understand and appreciate the traits that can only be found in a real woman of experience.

“The commonality a senior woman

offers is much sexier than a supermodel.”

2. Shared values and history.

A senior woman’s eyes have the same tenderness, warmth and appeal as those of a younger woman, but a man can also see so much more that lies beneath the surface. The lights are on, and somebody is home, too.

It is very comforting to a mature man to find a woman who is done with the silly games, mood swings and superficiality that are part of youth for all men and women.

Senior men have discovered what is really important to a smooth and rewarding life, and so have senior women. Senior men and women share a more compatible world view, and their cultural histories have common threads.

They grew up enjoying the same music, living through the same political events and learning to achieve the same goals by following the same values.

They can talk about subjects they both enjoy and understand and challenge each other intellectually, which is very important to a man.

Soul mates have to be simpatico on many levels, and this gives senior women a big advantage with senior men.

3. Sexual compatibility.

The stability and depth of human understanding also carries over to the sexual realm. Most men, by the time they have raised a family and survived the trials and tribulations of a relationship and life, have adopted the kind of mindset women learned by the time they were 30: Love and sex cannot really be separated.

Multiple partners and “stranger sex” that once seemed so intriguing have lost their appeal for most senior men. The ability to connect sexually with one woman who loves and understands you is the most satisfying and highest high a man can achieve.

And, of course, there are no games or qualms about it. A senior woman knows when she is ready to commit sexually to a man, and she will give herself completely. The sexual act is also a real commitment for a man at this point too, and it is not a bond he will take lightly.

The trust, loyalty, commitment, commonality and true partnership that a senior woman offers a man is much sexier than a supermodel in a skimpy bikini.

Reader Question:

It seems like no matter who I’ve tried to connect with, I don’t get any response. I even made an attempt to someone I already knew who popped up as a 90 percent match for me. He didn’t respond. I’m getting completely disheartened. I fit many of their profile requests but still have no luck.

What are men really looking for?

-Carla (Florida)

Dr. Wendy Walsh’s Answer:

Without seeing your online profile, I can’t tell exactly where the flaws in your photo or description are. In my new book, “The 30 Day Love Detox,” I have devoted an entire chapter to online profile writing and using online dating sites. While I can’t fit in all the information here, I’d love to give you a few pointers:

1. Pout, don’t smile.

Yes, that silly little duck face on women gets statistically more clicks online than a smile.

2. Under estimate your height.

Shorter women get more clicks than tall women.

3. Take a photo in your home with no flash.

A picture that doesn’t use a flash can make you look up to seven years younger, and professional photos don’t get as many clicks as natural ones.

4. Use perfect grammar in your profile.

If you don’t care about yourself enough to make your profile grammatically correct, how can you care enough about your relationships?

5. Don’t chase men with emails.

That will turn them off. Instead view a lot of profiles without sending a message. Men will know who viewed them and wonder why you didn’t write them.

6. Be authentic and unique.

Trying to please everyone means you’re not going to passionately energize anyone.

What makes men want to think about you all the time while highly anticipating the next time you meet? What will make a man notice you and want to ask you out instead of all the other girls?

Sure, I could answer this question with a variety of filthy answers, each more specific and vulgar than the last, but ultimately sex is only one route to a man’s heart.

Unless you’re planning on becoming extremely promiscuous, a library of sexual techniques won’t really address your desire to be able to turn on every man you meet with little more than a touch of shared conversation and a few lingering glances.

To achieve that, you need to cultivate a few of the qualities and traits all of the world’s most attractive women share.

Confidence.

Yes, believe it or not, men are deeply, deeply attracted to confident women. No matter how many media hits the vacuous, defenseless Kewpie doll archetype may receive, men will always find themselves ensnared by women with a strong sense of themselves.

This confidence doesn’t need to manifest itself in being loud, brassy or aggressive. There are plenty of confident women who are reserved, who keep to themselves, who come off a little more introverted than extroverted.

Any woman, no matter her temperament, who knows who she is and feels secure in that knowledge will attract all the men she can handle.

“Men find women’s

quirkiness attractive.”

Overt sensuality.

Please note I used the word “sensuality” and not “sexuality.” Men absolutely want to date women who are highly sexual in nature, but most men aren’t particularly attracted to women who flaunt their sexuality around at every possible moment, just as most women aren’t particularly attracted to men who are too overt and obvious with their own carnal nature.

However, even though men aren’t looking for a woman who is uncomfortably overt with her sexuality, men are looking for a woman who is highly sensual. By that, I mean men are attracted to women who clearly enjoy and appreciate indulging in their physical nature.

Women who love food, who love to dance and who generally move with a level of easy grace and effortless comfort with their bodies demonstrate their deep sensuality. And men can’t get enough of these women.

Trust me on this one. Any man who notices how sensual you are will assume your deep sexual nature as well. Display the former and save the latter for your privately shared moments.

Weirdness.

When I say men are attracted to weirdness, I don’t mean the sort of weirdness that involves collecting dolls and replacing their heads with photos of your ex-boyfriends. I mean the sort of weirdness that represents an authentic reflection of your own deepest, dorkiest nature.

Because let’s be honest — there’s probably some aspect of your personality that is nerdy, that is quirky or that’s a little too passionate about Justin Bieber.

Instead of trying to hide this side of yourself, highlight it. Make it clear you aren’t the queen of cool. Let it be known you aren’t scared of seeming silly or a little bit odd.

Men find women’s quirkiness attractive because it not only brings you down to earth and makes you a real person, it also allows us to drop our own walls and be more honest about those quirky aspects of our own personalities we might rather tuck away from the limelight.
