The Short Version: A romantic getaway can bring couples together by giving them an unforgettable experience in some of the world’s most beautiful places. Nestled in the lush hills of St. Lucia, the Anse Chastanet resort has offered people a breathtaking retreat since 1974. Its open-air rooms, wraparound balconies, and luxurious atmosphere is perfect for couples celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary. This one-of-a-kind resort highlights the natural beauty and authentic cuisine of the Caribbean, offering an array of relaxing and engaging activities for guests from all over the world. Whether you want to explore a shipwreck or enjoy a private dinner on the beach, you can connect with your loved one in a tropical paradise thanks to the gracious hospitality of Anse Chastanet.
Anse Chastanet wasn’t designed by hotel chain owners to be economical and turn a profit. It was designed by an architect to be a breathtakingly beautiful and welcoming resort. Nick Troubetzkoy wanted to create a place that showcased the natural beauty of the Caribbean.
“He was an architect by profession. That’s the lens he views life through,” his son Yasha Troubetzkoy explained. “Every design choice he made was to make the resort as magnificent as possible.”
In 1974, Nick and his wife, Karolin, established Anse Chastanet as a premier resort in St. Lucia, and the family has been wowing guests, expanding the hotel, and supporting the local tourism industry ever since. To this day, the founders emphasize building and buying locally because they want to give the resort an authentic feel.
“You’re in St. Lucia, and we want you to feel like you’re in St. Lucia,” Yasha said. “We aim to create a sense of place. Everything in the rooms speaks to the place.”
The open-air rooms at Anse Chastanet offer remarkable panoramic views of the green hills, tropical gardens, and pristine beaches of the Caribbean. You can relax in your own private infinity pool in the Piton Pool Suite or watch the sunset from the deck of the Beach House. These romantic rooms book up quickly and are a favorite among honeymooners.
“Truly an exceptional trip,” raved a guest named Woodward in a testimonial. “This is our second stay at Anse Chastanet, and it equaled, if not surpassed, our first. Our room was large, beautifully decorated with an unbelievable view.”
The customer service at Anse Chastanet is top-notch. Although it only has 79 rooms, the resort employs over 560 staff members because they want to keep a more than seven-to-one ratio between staff members and guests at all times — that way they can address every need and provide personalized assistance 24/7.
“Everyone has a function in bringing something extra to the guests,” Yasha said. He oversees the team as the general manager of the resort. “We take real pleasure in delivering quality service.”
Dining at Anse Chastanet is always a treat because of the care and quality put into the resort’s cuisine. Yasha said the resort offers a variety of dining options — from a burger bar to a vegetarian restaurant — so everyone can find something they enjoy. The menus change twice a week, so guests can always find something new to try. The most popular of the resort’s seven restaurants is Aspara, which fuses modern East Indian food with Caribbean cooking in a tribute to the diverse heritage of the island.
The resort has made sustainability a high priority, reducing its use of plastics by 90% in the last few years. The on-site restaurants use organic ingredients (sometimes from its own farms) in original dishes whenever possible. Yasha said the resort makes its own honey on the property, so you and your honey can indulge in something sweet and all-natural during your stay.
Anse Chastanet breaks the mold in many ways. The resort stands out because of its luxurious beauty, its friendly staff, and its commitment to making the local community and the world a better place. The team has instituted a number of charitable policies, including offering zero-interest loans to employees, to foster prosperity and stimulate growth in the area. Yasha told us the resort has funded school programs, offered scholarships, and contributed to sporting events in an effort to give back to the community.
“Part of the charm of St. Lucia is that people are so genuine,” he said. “They take pride in welcoming guests to the island, so you feel a genuine connection to the people and the place.”
You won’t be bored during your stay at Anse Chastanet. Whether you enjoy relaxing on the beach or hiking up the mountainside, the area offers an array of engaging outdoor activities for guests.
You can take a swim in the crystal clear waters and then go bird watching in the tropical gardens. The resort offers massage classes that teach couples how to help each other relax as well as a chocolate lab that offers a taste of the rich cocoa in the area. Whether you’re going scuba diving to see the reef or visiting the estate’s organic farm, Anse Chastanet provides a scenic backdrop to make unforgettable memories.
Many couples enjoy going sailing together because they can reflect on the serenity of the landscape away from all other guests. Anse Chastanet offers complimentary water sports, including ocean kayaking, snorkeling, and windsurfing. Some individuals have even popped the question while out on the water — or even under the water.
The Anse Chastanet team is happy to facilitate creative and memorable marriage proposals on property. Yasha said the resort has set off fireworks and arranged live bands to help couples celebrate a new chapter in their relationships.
“What we do really well are these custom arrangements for couples,” he said. “We love to celebrate these over-the-top romantic moments and create great experiences for our guests.”
It isn’t unusual for the team to receive a thank-you note nine months later saying the couple had a lovely time — and conceived a child during their stay. “We joke that there are probably children out there named after us,” Yasha said. “We love feeling like we’re part of their lives in such a special way.”
Anse Chastanet is a natural choice for a destination wedding — because you can get married on the beach and spend your honeymoon in a world-class resort. Couples have their pick of 10 scenic spots on the 600-acre private estate. Some couples have even chosen an underwater wedding or proposal orchestrated by the scuba diving team.
The resort hosts one wedding ceremony a day. Whether it’s in the botanical gardens or on the beach, the team puts on a spectacular show. Receptions on the beach are particularly popular because they are so removed from everything.
“You’re on your own private beach,” Yasha said, “which is pretty cool.”
Anse Chastanet cultivates an exclusive, intimate, and fun atmosphere for newlyweds. The wedding party can be as loud as they like as they dance the night away because they’re far away from any other guests. They have the freedom to let loose without worrying about disturbing anyone.
The hotel also offers a budget-friendly elopement package. If you book a room for seven nights at Anse Chastanet, your elopement is on them. The Elope to Paradise package includes the registrar, the wedding license, a marriage certificate, and legal fees as well as a wedding planner, arch, cake, bottle of champagne, and a decorated dinner table for the happy couple and their wedding party. The package is available to guests tying the knot between August 1 and September 30, 2018.
And, of course, once couples tie the knot here, they often return for anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions. Yasha told us he knew of a couple who had visited Anse Chastanet 28 times in the last decade.
From the outset, Anse Chastanet has stood out in the hotel industry by offering awe-inspiring and all-encompassing views of the Caribbean. Looking toward the future, Anse Chastanet will continue to provide an unparalleled guest experience that pays homage to the Caribbean’s lush surroundings and local culture.
Yasha said the team hopes to open more pool rooms because they’re, by far, the most popular among guests. Anse Chastanet also plans on expanding sustainability projects to reduce its global footprint in the coming decades.
“We want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” he explained. “My parents always impressed on me the importance of doing things the right way.”
Over the years, Anse Chastanet has received its fair share of glowing testimonials from couples who had a wonderful time at the resort and promise to return to this hidden gem soon.
“We will cherish the memories of waking up to see the sunrise from the Terrace or from the pool,” said a guest who stayed at the resort with her husband on their 25th wedding anniversary. “The beaches are outstanding, and we are missing them so much.”
