The Short Version: The Fasting Method operates on the simple premise that one of the most effective ways to lose weight and get healthier is through fasting and a whole-food diet. It’s clinically proven coaching program includes health consultations with a doctor as well as regular coaching to keep singles and couples on track as they pursue their goals of enjoying a healthy life and healthy relationships.

In 2015, Jeff McCann found out he was diabetic and decided to do research about alternative treatments before starting medication. He discovered that fasting, combined with a low-carb diet, could improve his health. That’s how he found out about The Fasting Method.

Dr. Jason Fung was running the “Intensive Dietary Management” (IDM) program (now called “The Fasting Method”) to promote intermittent fasting for better health. Jeff was on the waitlist for a month before he could enroll in the program and meet with co-founders Dr. Jason Fung and Megan Ramos.

After looking at Jeff’s charts, Dr. Fung recommended an extended fast. This was a significant challenge for Jeff to take on, but he was fortunate to have the full support of his wife Carolann as well as medical supervision through IDM. Carolann cleared the family’s pantry of sugary and processed foods, helping to create a low-carb meal plan for the family.

Eight months later, Jeff had incorporated intermittent fasting into his routine, had lost 80 pounds, and eventually put diabetes into remission.

Megan Ramos, co-founder and CEO of The Fasting Method, then reached out to Jeff to see if he was interested in becoming a coach and inspire others with his story. He jumped on board, and soon after, Jeff’s wife Carolann, also joined the team. Carolann had successfully beaten breast cancer as a client herself, using the same methods.

Throughout the years, Jeff and Carolann have worked as a team to maintain good health and pass healthy eating habits onto their seven children. Jeff and Carolann challenge each other to achieve weight-loss goals and strengthen their relationship by working together to support a healthy lifestyle.

“A few clients do coaching as a couple, with me, and it’s honestly good to see that,” Jeff said. “Couples can hold each other accountable through the process and see more success together.”

The Personal Programs Include Video Coaching Sessions

The Fasting Method has two program tracks available to singles and couples looking to get healthy. Clients can sign up for “The Fasting Method Online,” a monthly plan for $39 per month or the annual plan for $390 per year, which includes online access to their live support groups, fasting circles, regular live Q&A sessions, health tracking, videos, courses, and a bunch of other resources.

Clients looking for a more customized approach can schedule a free consultation with a coach to determine their eligibility for The Fasting Method’s one-on-one coaching program.

The Fasting Method is unique because of its focus on intermittent or extended fasting. While coaches are happy to assist clients with dietary plans to complement fasting protocols, they emphasize the importance of fasting over the typical calories in/calories out programs. This means that clients with a wide variety of dietary approaches such as carnivore, vegetarian, vegan and high fat/low carb, or ketogenic diets can work successfully with The Fasting Method. The coaches tailor their dietary recommendations to fit a client’s health goals and lifestyle.

“We put an emphasis on whole foods with natural proteins and fats,” Jeff said. “We don’t require clients to be low-carb, but it definitely helps complement the fasting.”

Personal coaches can guide singles and couples to adopt healthy eating habits.

The Fasting Method Coaching program includes eight personalized coaching sessions, two health consultations with a doctor, and six month access to The Fasting Method Program online.

For those looking for more help dealing with behavioral issues, coaching clients can also purchase a behavioral coaching package along with their fasting coaching sessions to address issues such as binge eating or developing a healthy mindset.

Whether it’s through a live, virtual event or self-guided educational resources, The Fasting Method provides ample opportunities for people in relationships to get their significant other involved in the process.

“Having your partner’s support is definitely a positive thing in changing your diet and routine,” Jeff explained. “We encourage our clients to have a supportive partner or friend to be accountable to.”

Over 11,000 Community Members Support Each Other’s Journey

The Fasting Method has created a network of health-conscious people, and it provides channels for them to share their stories and show support for one another.

The community forum and circles provide a confidential space where individuals can talk about their health goals and challenges. Some people ask for advice on how to curb an unhealthy habit, while others share recipes and other resources that reinforce their diet plan.

The Fasting Method can support a variety of health and weight-loss goals.

“It’s very interactive and lots of relationships are built there,” Carolann said. “Finding people who are of like-mind is always a good thing — no matter if it’s your hobby or job or lifestyle. And our community is very supportive.”

The Fasting Method’s members can cheer each other on through the private forums and circles, and they can also sign up for live, virtual support groups hosted through Zoom.

The support groups have been particularly helpful during the pandemic when social distancing is necessary, and some people may struggle to stick to their health goals. However, meeting a group of 50 or so people who share the same mindset and determination can make a huge difference. By asking questions and sharing success stories, individuals can keep themselves motivated and inspire others to continue with their fasting goals.

The Fasting Method fosters a positive environment where all types of people come together out of a desire to maintain a better diet and get healthier one skipped meal at a time.

“I get to speak to people all over the world every day,” Jeff said. “Our program works for people of all different cultures and backgrounds — from homemakers to professional athletes.”

Helping Individuals, Couples & Families Get Healthier

Over the years, The Fasting Method has gotten results for people from all walks of life. Its clients include Ivy League professors and doctors as well as bus drivers and public school teachers. Some are facing serious health challenges (diabetes, high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome), and others are simply looking to tweak their diet and lose weight.

The Fasting Method’s coaches celebrate their client’s accomplishments and motivate them to keep up with the program. Carolann said even small signs of progress — such as successfully avoiding midnight snacks — can mean a lot to individuals who are striving to change their lifestyle.

Jeff McCann reversed his Type 2 diabetes and lost 80 pounds through the Fasting Method.

“The people who really take the information and resources and run with them — and are consistent — are the ones who get results,” Jeff told us.

Jeff and Carolann know that The Fasting Method can offer life-changing and life-saving health benefits because they have seen it work for their household.

Carolann was diagnosed with stage-3 breast cancer in January 2016, and she embraced The Fasting Method while undergoing cancer treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation. Carolann worked with her oncologists, as well as Megan Ramos and Dr. Fung, to come up with a diet to support her immune system.

Today, Carolann is cancer-free and has lost 50 pounds through intermittent fasting. She and Jeff have improved their relationship with food and are now extending those lessons to their clients and their seven children.

“After making changes in our health, we took it a step further and asked, how can we make this better for our whole family?” Carolann said. “Even though our children don’t fast, it’s really important to help our kids make smart decisions by limiting excessive carbs and fast food.”

The Fasting Method Yields Positive Results

Jeff turned his life around by following the health guidelines set by The Fasting Method. He lost weight and reversed his diabetes within months, and his success encouraged his wife to tackle her own health challenges.

Over the last five years, Jeff and Carolann’s relationship has flourished as a result of their shared commitment to The Fasting Method. As fasting coaches, they now share important tips and recommendations with people who are on their own journey toward health and happiness.

“Helping people is number one,” Carolann said. “When people are engaged and are willing to do the work, we see all kinds of progress in their health.”
