When Leibish Polnauer launched his first online diamond business in 1998, it took nearly a full day to upload a single image and description to his website — but he was a visionary who saw potential in the fledgling world of e-commerce. “When he sees the potential in an idea, he will do everything in his power to progress with it,” said Benji Margolese, Director of Content Marketing for Leibish & Co.
Leibish created a successful, family-run operation with his wife and children serving in leadership positions. They have grown a successful online business with offices located throughout the world. Leibish & Co. is a leader in unique colored diamonds and gemstones that are hard to find elsewhere. Its diamonds are also conflict-free, which is an important factor for many shoppers.
“People come to us because they seek out something a little different, something a little more special than what everyone else has,” Benji said.
While Leibish & Co. offers high-quality traditional diamonds, the company specializes in colorful, unique jewelry. When asked why the business has such a high customer return rate, Benji quickly pinpoints the reason.
“It’s a combination of excellent products, fantastic service, and jewelry crafted to the highest levels of perfection,” he said. “The jewelry we make is not your everyday, mass-produced type of product. Each piece is tailor-made to perfectly fit the diamond or gemstone chosen by the client.”
Leibish & Co. is a true family business, with Leibish’s family members playing key roles in the company.
Leibish serves as Founder and President of the company, while his wife, Rosi, is the business’ Events Manager. Their eldest daughter, Chavi, serves as the Lead Jewelry Designer — which is a massive responsibility since custom jewelry makes up more than 50% of the company’s business, Benji said.
Leibish’s eldest son, Yossi, is the CEO of Leibish & Co. Another son, Shmulik, who is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, is the Chief Diamond Buyer for the company. “Shmulik is, honestly, one of most gifted color diamond experts in the industry,” Benji said.
Leibish’s son Itzik is the company’s COO and runs its New York office on Fifth Avenue. Yoni, who is the youngest of Leibish’s five children, is the company’s CFO.
“As one of the longtime members of the team, I can tell you that, although there is no relation, they consider me, and others, part of their family,” Benji said. “We all bring our own expertise to the business, but work together to consistently grow the company.”
Customers are also treated like family at Leibish & Co., where the business invests energy into personal service and sales. “If you have ever dealt with one specific agent, for example, that is the same person you will always deal with, regardless of what you are calling or writing in about,” Benji said. “We don’t believe in passing customers around to different departments when they have a question or specific issue they want to deal with.”
Leibish has a few different types of customers: there are consumers, who primarily shop through the website, retailers, and those in the trade business, who typically visit the company’s main offices in New York, Israel, and Hong Kong.
The majority of Leibish & Co.’s customers are from the United States. Its next most popular audience is Canada, followed by the United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, and the rest of Europe.
Customers at every stage of life shop at Leibish & Co., though most are between the ages of 35 and 54, Benji said. Additionally, the company garners approximately 300,000 website visits each month — and keeps most of its customers coming back.

“We hold a large collection of multicolor diamond and gemstone jewelry, with some of the rarest colors ever seen,” he said. “We are recognized best by our bread-and-butter products — yellow diamond and pink diamond engagement rings. However, we sell diamond jewelry of almost every color, and precious gemstones — including sapphires, emeralds, and rubies. We sell jewelry crafted with colorless diamonds, too, but our expertise is in the world of color.”
For customers who have something in mind and need help making it a reality, Leibish & Co. offers a “Design Your Own” jewelry tool, which Benji said is its most popular product.
“Naturally, when looking for a special piece, people often want specific stones and setting styles they’ve already fallen in love with,” he said. The “Design Your Own” tool enables customers to build a piece using the stone, setting, and metal of their choice.
“It allows them to bring their dreams to life — with our expertise in craftsmanship,” Benji told us.
As it looks forward to the future, Leibish & Co. is slowly shifting toward higher-ticket items and more product diversity. The company feels comfortable branching out to new product lines because of the dedication and passion it applies to perfect its current creations.
“We have talked about introducing many different accessories — such as luxury watches, handbags, and even pens,” Benji said. “But we decided to wait until we first perfected our main line of product, which is diamond jewelry.”
Leibish & Co. is also looking for ways to continue perfecting its popular website, too. One way it plans to improve its online experience is by introducing augmented reality features, which will give virtual shoppers more of an in-store experience.
