Reader Question:

I have been in a relationship for a year and a half, and I’m not sure where it is going. We do things together but only on his terms. I love the guy, but I’m not sure if there is someone else or if he is just using me for a fool.

We live an hour apart and he always has excuses not to come to my place. I have never met his family or friends and just thought maybe it would be best if I started looking elsewhere.

Do you have any advice?

-Sandra (South Dakota)

Dr. Wendy Walsh’s Answer:

Dear Sandra,

Here’s what I like about you: You are loyal, you are happy to try new activities, and you’re not afraid of car time if it means you can see your man.

Here’s what I’d like to change about you: You settle for low-criteria relationships.

Darling, you deserve so much better than a dude who hides you from his  friends and family and won’t even waste the gas to see you.

Dump him, doll. And give your love to a man who can love back.
