The holidays can be an up and down time for singles looking for love online.

Seeing friends post their holiday gifts and romantic trips can sting at the heart when you’re still logging on daily and not viewing profiles of anyone you think you’d be interested in dating.

If you’re wondering about the one you never had a second date with, or if your former flame is still has an active online dating profile, I say it’s a good time to reach out and reconnect.

The holiday numbers:

In a holiday singles survey, PlentyOfFish reported 26 percent of singles said they actually slept with an ex over the holidays.

Whether it’s good or bad to go down memory lane, there is a familiarity with someone of your past, and rekindling a relationship that prematurely ran its course is something for singles to consider.

Rather than hopping in the sack with your former beau and regretting it in the morning, I believe a better suggestion is to log on and review your old emails on your dating sites.

Perhaps you got busy and never had that first chance to meet. Maybe you exchanged a few emails and then met someone you started dating exclusively, but it didn’t go the distance.

Maybe you hadn’t logged on in a while and by the time you got back to him, he had met someone.

“Send someone an email

to say ‘Happy Holidays.'”

Now is the perfect time to reach out.

Reconnect and send someone you were once interested in an email to say “Happy Holidays.” It’s friendly and nonthreatening, and maybe you’ll get the chance to start the dialog again.

The fact is you’re still an active member of an online dating site and so is your potential date. To achieve the best results, notice when he or she has logged on recently to see if they are truly an active member.

If their profile says they haven’t logged on for three weeks or more, chances are they’re not available.

Does that mean you shouldn’t send the email? Of course not. You might get a reply thanking you for saying hello.

Remember you need to cast a very wide net. Your date just might have a friend or two to introduce you to.

That, my friends, is social dating.

Would you reconnect with an ex online this holiday season?
