Lesbian dating is a complicated sport. Interracial lesbian dating may or may not be more complicated, but it’s a question that comes up regularly.

In my work with matchmakers, I often hear them telling me it’s hard to find matches for women of color. That does astound and sadden me, but I also know it’s true.

As someone who has dated interracially, I can tell you it certainly expanded my white girl perspective about people, race, life and love.

While dating this amazing black woman, I’d never been treated with more generosity and respect both as an individual and as a mother.

At the same time, I was given an education about growing up black in America that gave me a deep respect for the real differences many Americans of color face in our society.

Should you consider interracial dating?

Of course you should, and here are five reasons why:

  1. You’ll open up the possibility of meeting more women and finally finding that amazing love match you’ve been seeking.
  2. You’ll discover women of a different race are interesting, smart, sexy, funny and bring a spark of surprise that dating in your own comfy same race backyard just doesn’t bring.
  3. You’ll learn women of a different race are also very much like you. They have the same feelings, fears and dreams you have, and perhaps one of them is a perfect match to help complete your dreams.
  4. Her different perspective on life will open you up, cause you to grow and evolve in heart and mind and become a better version of yourself. That is one of the beauties of differences in our world.
  5. Black is beautiful and so is brown, yellow and red. The biggest differences are about culture and values because underneath that skin color, we are all just women who want to love women.
