Ella Fitzgerald warbled that question to so many over the years with her marvelous voice.

It’s been a while since your 20s and 30s and the pressures on singles so well represented in “When Harry Met Sally” to have to have a date for New Year’s Eve.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t still an excellent opportunity to get out and meet new singles!

Midlife singles face a social challenge.

Most of the New Year’s Eve bashes are geared toward the bar scene culture of the young singles.

However, with some creativity and diligence, you can locate a fun variety of New Year’s Eve parties that would fit the active lifestyle of the boomers.

Look for dances to attend. Both social clubs and singles groups host New Year’s Eve dances.

Many salsa associations, swing dance ballrooms, ballroom dance clubs, contra dancing associations and square dance clubs put on a special New Year’s Eve dance.

Search online at the various websites dedicated to supporting the different dance styles to find what is offered in your area.

Be sure to ask about what kind of advance ticket purchase or reservation is needed to attend.

“Implementing these ideas should

yield a number of viable options.”

Many faith-based communities sponsor events.

You do not have to be a member of the congregation or that particular faith community to attend. Additionally, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find you are not the only non-member in attendance that night.

Start phoning the faith communities to see if they are sponsoring such an event and what other resources do they know of for this special evening.

Often they are very well-tuned into their local community and are aware of the offerings hosted by other venues in the area. They are dedicated to serving the singles where they live and are quite happy to help.

There you have it…

Implementing these ideas should yield a number of viable options for you to enjoy getting out and hobnobbing on New Year’s Eve.

One way to engender yourself to the organizers, arrive early and get introduced around a bit is to bring a food item to be shared at the event.

They always need more food at a dance. Contribute a dish and be helpful.

You’ll quickly make new friends and start the New Year’s party off with a bang!
