The Short Version: Choosing the right location for a date can be tricky, but for singles in Boulder, Colorado, the choice is easy. Avery Brewing Co. is the perfect place for a casual date. The brewery and taproom offers daters great beer, crave-worthy food, and a chill ambiance that encourages conversation and laughter.

There’s a lot of pressure that goes into planning a date early on in a relationship.

You need to choose to go somewhere that shows you thought ahead about your partner’s interests, likes, and dislikes. You need to make sure the price range shows that you aren’t a showoff or cheap but won’t break the bank. And most of all, you need to choose an activity and location that will genuinely be fun for both you and your date.

Choosing an activity that fits with the local culture is a safe way to make your date comfortable and have a good time. It sets up the stage to talk with your date about hobbies, interests, and how they enjoy spending their time.

It’s no secret that Boulder, Colorado, is an outdoorsy city filled with adventurous people who love to get outside and try new things. It isn’t known for fancy dining but rather for pleasant opportunities to enjoy nature, connect with the community, and have a few beers among friends and loved ones.

For your next date in Boulder, consider ending the day at Avery Brewing Co., a tap room with a wide selection of nationally-acclaimed craft brews, excellent ambiance, and full participation in the local Boulder community.

Avery Brewing Co. has helped modernize Colorado’s taste in beer with an innovative craft selection that will impress even the most avid ale aficionados.

Avery is as Colorado as they come. With a brewery mountain biking group and official IPA-themed carabiners for your favorite climbers, the team at the brewery and its regulars fit right into the Boulder culture. If you want to make a positive impression on your date, take them to Avery Brewing Co.

Over 30 Taps of Year-Round Brews

The environment at Avery Brewing Co. is fantastic, but regulars love to come to the brewery for its excellent beer selection.

The brewery started in the early 1990s when founder Adam Avery started home brewing for fun. He realized he wanted to pursue his passion full time, and with an investment from his father, he began Avery Brewing Co. as a craft brewery.

Avery’s brews gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s as the public began to embrace hoppier beers and IPAs. Avery Brewing Co. led the pack of IPAs in Boulder, already a hub of brewing innovation.

After 20 years in a small warehouse, Adam opened Avery Brewing Co. taproom, which gave him and his team more space to brew and an audience of in-house customers ready to try the company’s beer selection. Now, after almost 30 years of brewing, the company has a wide array of tasty craft brews you won’t want to miss.

“Since 1993, we have been enthusiastic curators of all things beer,” a team member said. “We use our nearly 30 years of brewing experience to deliver fan favorites and bold innovations to curious beer lovers everywhere. From operating out of a small seven-barrel brewhouse to building our dream brewery in 2015 and distributing our beer in 35 states (and counting), one thing that has always remained true is our commitment and passion toward brewing.”

With 30+ beers on draft, you’ll be able to find a beer you like, no matter your palate. The company keeps a large array of malty and hoppy beers on draft at all times, but they also have a good selection of light beers, sour and experimental brews, hard seltzers, and non-alcoholic beverages. And if you come during the holiday season, you may even get to try a fun seasonal beer to get you in the holiday spirit.

“Some of the things you’ll find on our draft menu are seasonal releases, experimental beers from our Innovation Brewing System called the LAB, a variety of barrel-aged beers, “legacy beers” from years past, hard seltzer, our newest releases, and our year-round core brands, which are always available,” the team told us. “We also offer non-alcoholic options, including our popular Hop Water, Kombucha, and Soda.”

Avery Brewing Co. distributes its beers nationwide, so even if you’re outside of Boulder, you can sample their brews. The website even has a handy brew-finder tool, so you can look up where to find each brew near you!

A Lively Tap Room

The first few dates in a relationship should be fun and lighthearted. For most singles, this isn’t the time to go to a Michelin-star restaurant or break out the three-piece suit. You want to be somewhere where both you and your date will feel at ease.

You probably don’t want to go somewhere as noisy as a club or EDM show, but it’s nice to have a little bit of background noise to dull any pauses in conversation or awkwardness you may feel. For some people, it may even be a good idea to go to the type of place where your friends could tag along.

Breweries offer the perfect combination of relaxed vibes and fun energy for a casual date, and Avery Brewing Co. has indoor and outdoor spaces designed for casual hangouts. Sit outside on the patio to enjoy the beautiful Colorado scenery, or stay inside to cozy up during the cold winters. Avery’s patio space will be expanding in the coming year, so singles will have more room to mingle with friends or love interests.

Enjoy all that Boulder has to offer at Avery Brewing Co.

Heavy beer drinkers and sober people alike will be able to find a drink on draft that suits their taste buds. Whether you’re going with a high-ABV stout or a non-alcoholic kombucha, you’ll find something delicious to sip in between conversation with your date.

The taproom is a great spot for a quick meetup to figure out if you like each other, as well as a full dinner. You can just pop by for a beer and leave whenever you want, or you can order off the food menu and enjoy each other’s company for hours on end. Chef Chris Blackwood sources ingredients locally to produce gorgeous seasonal meals in addition to standard barroom snacks to satisfy your pre-dinner hunger.

The brewery has a Burger & Beer special on Thursdays, and it serves Po’Boys on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Plus, the shareable appetizers such as the Brisket Nachos and Das Pretzel are perfect for couples on a date.

Go on a Quintessential Colorado Date at Avery Brewing Co.

When I was single and dating, I hated having to choose what to do. Admittedly, I would usually rely on the guy to come up with somewhere to go and thus save myself from the added anxiety of choosing the location. I never wanted to suggest going somewhere only to find that the place exclusively served food he couldn’t stand or was in a price range he couldn’t swing.

An added difficulty for me was the fact that most of my dating took place shortly after moving to Atlanta, where I didn’t have a great feel for the restaurants that locals — not just out-of-state college students — actually went to. I was constantly worried that I’d look out of touch or uncultured if I suggested somewhere overpriced and in a kitschy part of town.

Plenty of young people move to Boulder, either for CU Boulder or to enjoy their early years of adulthood. Boulder is a vibrant and ever-changing city, making it difficult to always have your finger on the pulse of what’s out there. Newcomers and long-time residents alike may find it tricky to stay up to date on the cool places in town.

If you’re worried about finding the best go-to date spot in Boulder, Avery Brewing Co. is always a fantastic option. The tap room fits perfectly into the athletic, granola culture of the town while always staying true to its craft brewing roots. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t like Avery Brewing Co. — they truly have something for everyone.

“During warmer months, we have misting fans out on our patio to keep everyone cool, as well as table umbrellas for shade,” a team member said. “With our cozy Tap Room and beer distribution across the country, Avery is both a nationally acclaimed brewery and a perfect gathering place for family and friends.”

So the next time you’re stressing about where to take your date in Boulder, ask them how they feel about IPAs.
