How to Find Love This Fall

For some, the sign of fall means that leaves turn beautiful hues of red, orange and yellow. For others, it means new beginnings — the start of the school year, the start of a new job, and for those looking for Mr. Right, the chance to find love.

American author and journalist Hal Borland once said, “Summer ends and autumn comes, and he who would have it otherwise would have high tide always and a full moon every night.”

Borland’s quote makes me think of the phrase “summer love,” which, according to Urban Dictionary, means you met someone of the opposite sex during the summertime and you think you’re in love, but in actuality, it’s more like lust.

To me, this is a perfect analogy. Summer love is a fling and fall love is the real thing.

So if you’re looking to fall in love this fall, how do you make it happen? Are there any pointers, or do you just continue sipping your pumpkin latte and hope a knight in shining armor spills his caramel Frappuccino on you?

As in any season, you have to be open to love in order to find it. This doesn’t mean you have to be actively seeking love, but if Mr. Right passes you by on a crisp walk through the park, you have to be available to say “Hello!”

Offer to tag along with your best friend’s daughter. You never know when you’re going to meet a single father.

Pack a hot toddy and take a walk around the neighborhood, through the park or on the beach. There is nothing more romantic than a hot drink on a cool night. Who knows the potential mates you’ll meet?

Spend a few hours each week volunteering to sell pumpkins for a local nonprofit or spend time at the local elementary school teaching children how to make paintings of turkeys. It’s amazing the kind of men you’ll meet when you’re doing a good deed!

Fall is a time for new beginnings and feeling invigorated with the thought of a crisp, autumn love. Get outside of your comfort zone. Try something new and you never know whom you will meet.
