The year is coming to a close and if you’ve managed to avoid the awkward holiday questions from relatives about your love life, go buy a lottery ticket because many others haven’t been so lucky.

The holidays are hard. They are harder when you’re single. You feel the sting of being alone a little more this time of year.

But where there is a ying there is a yang. Here are three reasons why this season is the perfect trifecta to sign on and find a new partner for the new year.

1. More people = more opportunities.

Dating sites see a spike in memberships after the new year and that is your advantage.

While there is never a shortage of people in online dating, the more people that go on, the more chances you have to meet someone you like and LOVE.

Online dating is a numbers game, so here’s a time when the odds are better stacked in your favor.

“The new year means new year’s

resolutions for many people.”

2. Post-holidays = more sincere love seekers.

Maybe it’s the seasonal blues. Maybe it’s that snuggling on the couch under a fuzzy blanket that seems so much more appealing when the weather dips. Regardless, if you think summer lovin’ is the time to meet a mate, think again.

Not only are there more people online right now, but their intentions are keenly on relationships. The new year means new year’s resolutions for many people, and a happy love life tops many quality singles’ list.

3. Valentine’s Day is not that far away.

For us singles, we lament this holiday and it’s greedy corporate origins. We bemoan Hallmark for making us conform to this idea that you have to show affection on a single given day.

And didn’t Saint Valentine murder some people anyway? OK not really, but we just wish he did because it gives us a better reason to want to have murdered him.

Regardless of the truth of all of this, we will never escape Valentine’s Day. Never. Red sparkly hearts are vomited in every store, restaurant and hospital.

We can wish we had a partner to share it with even if only to commiserate on the BS of the “holiday.” In online dating, you’ll find just as many like-minded singletons who want to avoid the pain of the V-day as much as you.

One thing is certain: Sitting alone doing nothing to take the wheel of your love life won’t make the big, red, ugly V-monster go away, but finding a compatible person you like will.
