Does religion matter to you while looking for love online? In a survey of 2,700 U.S. singles conducted by JDate and ChristianMingle, their findings showed Jewish singles are nearly three times more likely to use an online dating site than Christian singles.
The primary reason both Christians and Jews join online dating sites is because they weren’t meeting enough people through friends and family.
Spark Networks, the parent company of these two “niche” dating sites, said despite these results, a large majority of Christians view online dating as a great way to meet people and explore potential mates.
Other findings in the State of Dating in America survey:
- 87 percent of singles agree online dating is a great way to meet people.
- Both men and women agree it is safer to meet someone through online dating than in a bar.
- 91 percent of single Jews and 84 percent of single Christians would live with their partner before marriage.
- 78 percent of single Christians and 60 percent of single Jews would consider marrying someone with kids.
- Nearly three-fourths of singles are looking for a partner who shares their religious faith.
- 85 percent of singles say sex before marriage is acceptable.
- A majority of singles say it doesn’t matter whether the man or woman is the breadwinner.

Where do singles like to go on a first online date?
According to the survey, Christian singles prefer to meet for dinner on a first date, while Jewish singles like a cup of coffee.
Who’s dating more?
Jewish singles have gone on far more dates than Christians, with more than one-fourth having gone on in-person dates with 10 or more people they met online.
More than half of the Christian singles in the survey have gone on between two and five in-person dates with people they met online.
