With social media, the ability to find love has expanded to a variety of flavors, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Skype and now even Vine – a six-second video clip you can upload from your iPhone using the Vine app.
Are all these digital options confusing?
To some, they are confusing. But to my friends Marsha Collier and Curt Buthman, they redefined the term of social media engagement when Curt proposed marriage to Marsha during her weekly Twitter chat for the world to see.
Fortunately, she said yes.
For a couple who first connected from across the country on Twitter in October of 2010, this marriage proposal was the digital equivalent of asking someone to marry them on a Jumbotron at a sporting event.
Curt created the Twitter hashtag of #WillYouMarryMe so the Twitterverse could follow the conversation and chime in with heartfelt congratulations.

Asking someone out or falling in love on social media is something every hopeful romantic should not rule out.
Sure, we all want to meet someone organically out and about, but I believe online daters should expand their zip codes and cast a wide net to keep all their options open.
Using tools such as video chat and Skype can enhance your relationship and also make you feel safe that your digital date is who he or she says they are.
Without social media, these two Tweethearts would have never met.
How did this digital courtship evolve?
After Curt and Marsha connected on Twitter, they met in person three weeks later at BlogWorld, a social media conference. I was there to witness their first date and watched their relationship blossom.
Fortunately, their online chemistry transferred to offline chemistry. Two months later after daily Skype dates, Curt flew from North Carolina to California for the holidays to see if their relationship had what it took to go the distance.
A few months later, he moved to California to be with his Twitter love and his famous Twitter/Vine marriage proposal took place this week.
The two plan on incorporating Twitter as part of their wedding ceremony and were overwhelmed with the outpouring of love as their marriage proposal went viral around the world.
