The Short Version: Christian singles who are over 30 can have a challenging time meeting a soulmate. Dating apps and websites don’t always mesh with the teachings of the church, and there aren’t many social activities for single adults. Fortunately, Passion 374 organizes events where Christians can meet mature friends and form promising relationships. A married Christian couple started the Christian singles ministry to help their friends network within the church, and they have grown the effort on an international scale. Passion 374 offers an informational blog, a YouTube channel, a podcast, and self-help books to assist singles on their way to holy matrimony.
Tobias Mook met Caroline on a Christian dating site, and they formed a deeply spiritual connection. Tobias joined Caroline’s church in Montreal, and their courtship became serious. In 2011, the couple got married at the church where their love had grown.
At the time, the couple had many single friends who wanted to find a loving Christian relationship like theirs. Out of a desire to help their friends, Tobias and Caroline founded a Christian singles ministry called Passion 374. The name references the Bible verse from the book of Psalms 37:4, which says “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Tobias and Caroline first approached the pastor at their church for guidance on how to bring singles together for friendship, fellowship, and courtship.
The church was quite large, with around 3,000 attendees every Sunday, and it offered many Bible study and social groups. But there wasn’t anything specifically for single Christian adults.
The couple asked if the church could organize a mixer for their single friends. The pastor smiled.
“Sure,” he said. “You’re welcome to organize and host it!”
Tobias laughed at the memory. Little did he and his wife realize how they would come to devote their time to helping fellow Christians meet and fall in love. Their group for Christian singles between 20 and 40 years old eventually reached over 500 people. And the ministry grew from there.
“Passion is my job, and my hobby is what is paying the bills right now. It’s fun to go to conferences and talk to a couple hundred people,” he said. “It’s always a lot of fun.”
Over the years, Tobias and Caroline went from holding events at their church to working with thousands of Christian singles at conferences around the world. They also write a weekly blog and have published two books filled with helpful advice for single Christians.
Tobias and Caroline started Passion 374 by hosting conferences that taught attendees how the Bible applied to dating and relationships. The focus was on helping single Christians come together in holy matrimony.
It didn’t take long before the couple was able to expand their reach beyond their own church to help others.
“We wanted to reach more people because we didn’t want to be with just one church,” Tobias said. “We wanted to serve the church of God as a whole, everywhere. That’s why we started a blog. From there, we grew. God gave us more churches. God gave us more people.”
Today, singles all around the globe — from France, Africa, Quebec, and the United States — have benefited from Passion 374 blogs and events.
The key age demographic for Passion 374 is 35 and up. The blog’s readers tend to be mature adults who are ready for love and want to build a strong Christian marriage. Tobias said younger Christians don’t usually seek the ministry’s help because they have enough dating options between church, school, and friend groups. Instead, it’s the older singles who are most interested in Christian dating events.
“But when you are over 30, you’re no longer a young adult,” Tobias said. “If you’re not married, there aren’t a lot of social scenes in the church for you. That’s the role we’re filling.”
Tobias said that his wife does most of the teaching and writing, and he’s the technical guy working in the background. He wrote the code for the blog, and Caroline writes the blog articles published every week.
“That’s been since the beginning of 2015, so we have close to 300 articles,” he said. “Our original vision was to have a place where you can search categories and find multiple pieces of information about Christian relationships.”
The couple has written two books about love and marriage. They have also made inspirational and educational videos for the Passion 374 YouTube channel, which shares content in English and French.
Just recently, the couple started a podcast to share helpful information in a more conversational format. “We have something special planned for the podcast, but we want to build an audience first before we present that,” Tobias said.
Tobias and Caroline said they find inspiration for new content by talking to Christian singles and Christian couples at events. The Christian dating experts said that sometimes a conversation with a pastor becomes the subject for a new video or blog.
They also strive to answer the frequently asked questions from their growing audience. Tobias said he’s noticed a lot of uncertainty about online dating in the Christian community, and he uses his and Caroline’s love story as an example of how successful matches on a Christian dating site can form deep, lasting relationships.
“We decided to write a book to share our experience with online dating and how to meet online,” he said. “Then the second book came from our experience of coaching people. The same nine questions kept popping up over and over.”
Tobias and Caroline reach an international audience through social media. Passion 374 has over 1,800 followers on its Facebook page, and its Instagram page is rapidly approaching its 500th post. About three years ago, the couple also set up localized Christian singles groups in cities across the world.
“Our goal and desire is to get the local churches together to do those groups,” he said. “But we also find people in the town who want to help.”
When singles commit to the responsibility of leading the groups, Tobias and Caroline assist by overseeing the financials and some organizational elements. For example, a group in Quebec is planning on going kayaking, and Passion 374 will facilitate the payment for the rentals. The locals can simply send the money and then enjoy the day on the water.
Although the coronavirus pandemic put many events on hold over the last year, Passion374 has never stopped promoting Christian love and relationships. Whether it’s organizing an outdoor gathering or offering advice to singles, this ministry has created a spirit of friendship and belonging through shared faith in God.
“We want to foster a community to bring friends together and have more fun. Then perhaps you’ll be interested in someone else who comes,” he said. “And organically, the relationship can go from there.”
Christians can build connections through their church and their local community, and those experiences could lead to long-term love. It all starts by getting out there and meeting like-minded people through the Passion 374 network.
