The Short Version: Busy professionals often don’t have the time to invest in finding a suitable partner, and Jewish singles are no exception. While the Jewish people have a long history of using matchmakers, Simantov International adds a modern twist with its professional team that dives deep into members’ profiles with the goal of connecting the right people. Simantov International matchmakers are so skilled that the company maintains an impressive 87% success rate and numerous love stories as testimonials. Keeping with the modern approach to helping singles find love, Simantov is partnering with Dr. Terri Orbuch to create science-based resources for singles.
“Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match…” For anyone who has seen the musical “Fiddler On The Roof,” those lyrics probably pop into your head when you think of Jewish matchmaking.
The song is sung by Jewish sisters who are thinking wistfully about the men with whom their local matchmaker will pair them. But their options were limited to the men in the nearby communities, meaning they could pick from the best of what’s available, not the best of the best.
Thanks to Simantov International, though, today’s Jewish singles can find the perfect match around the corner or the world.
Traditionally, matchmakers were highly important in Jewish communities, second only to the Rabbi. Parents would come to the matchmaker to ensure their children were connected with someone compatible — and with whom they could start a family. As traditions have shifted over the years, the reliance on matchmakers may have decreased, but the desire for Jewish singles to meet the right partner hasn’t.
They want a person who will uphold the traditions of their culture — no matter how closely they hold to the religious aspects of it. They want to continue pursuing their career — not go on a series of dead-end dates that they’ll come to regret as a waste of their time.
For those who aren’t willing to let chance dictate their introduction to that special person, Simantov Internationl stands ready to help.
For more than four decades, the company has helped men and women connect to create the next generations. Clients are so satisfied that, today, more than half of them are the children of previous clients.
“Jewish people are traditional and want a family,” said Rachel Stern, Co-Owner and CEO of Simantov International. “We receive thousands of applications, but we choose the ones who are ready to commit to following our process.”
Denise Kahn founded Simantov International in 1975 and began traveling around Europe to find eligible singles. She eventually married a gentleman whom she’d taken on as a client, and, after they married, she turned the company over to a client whom she’d matched with his wife.
Under Jose Weber, the business expanded to Jewish communities overseas and also started serving the less religious Jewish population. A successful match by Jose then led to the marriage of current owners Rachel and Bertrand Stern.
“After dating unsuccessfully for eight years, I was matched in just three months,” Rachel said. When Jose was ready to turn over the company to new management, Rachel and her husband applied for the position.
“We bid to take the ownership and finally won,” she said. “That’s how I became owner and CEO.” She brings a different skill set to the company with her background in business analytics and search engine optimization, which helps expand the company’s reach as its traditional matchmaking continues.
At Simantov International, there are no matchmaking algorithms; it’s all done the old-fashioned way — by getting to know clients and pairing compatible people with each other.
Not everyone who applies to be matched by Simantov is accepted as a client. Due to the nature of its service, Simantov International is selective, which ensures success for clients.
Sometimes parents are the impetus for a client seeking out Simantov International, as they are more traditional and the client wants to honor them by finding a Jewish match. Other times, parents want to be even more involved in the process of finding the right person for their children.
But no matter the family dynamic, the goal remains the same: to help open-minded, single Jewish professionals find the right person who can help them pass on their long-held traditions and beliefs.
While Simantov International wants the first match to be the right one, the team is committed to helping every client find a successful match. The business has a tight focus, but it has professional matchmakers and coaches based around the globe who speak a variety of languages to ensure a large dating pool.
Simantov International maintains an 87% success rate, but it doesn’t guarantee a certain number of matches because the objective is to make just one match.
“Once we take someone on board, we don’t give up,” Rachel Stern, Co-Owner and CEO of Simantov International
In some situations, it takes just one match, while others may require more. For the best results, Rachel advises people to be honest with themselves about what they want in a life partner, not treat Simantov as a dating service.
Rachel also believes she can find a partner for anyone, even clients who feel they are too picky to match. “Once we take someone on board, we don’t give up,” she said.
Simantov International matchmakers continue the process for the duration of each client’s membership.
In addition to adhering to a code of ethics, the team is dedicated, often spending hours poring over potential partners before making a match.
Simantov International has also teamed up with The Love Doctor, Dr. Terri Orbuch, to provide additional resources for singles. Dr. Orbuch is a renowned therapist, speaker, and author in the field of love and relationships and contributes articles to Simantov International’s blog.
Together, they are developing science-based resources to provide singles with tools they can use to find love and make their relationships better. Matchmaking can take time, and, in the meantime, singles can work on themselves. Men and women can work through the course materials to learn scientifically proven methods to become more desirable as both a person and partner.
A variety of materials are in the works — both free and paid — so there’ll be something for everyone. “When individuals go through the material, they can reflect on it and know what they’re looking for in a partner,” Rachel said.
For Rachel, running Simantov International is a way to give back to the Jewish community. “I continue to work with Simantov as an honor to give back what I got,” she said.
She enjoys being a part of the process that has connected couples around the world. She loves seeing people meet, become a couple, and then create a happy family.
