This is a great question! I live in a small town, and I am quite familiar with the challenges that accompany this situation. With a population of 10,000, my area is made up of young families — 30-somethings raising kids — and retirees who have come to spend their fortunes and enjoy small-town America. Might I add, there’s not a lot of people like me living around here — single, career-driven, no kids, etc.

I have found the best way to meet someone you’re compatible with is to get involved in local activities that spark your interest. These include church functions, political groups and civic-minded organizations. I also suggest volunteering at a nonprofit or attending a fundraiser. Putting yourself out there and exposing yourself to like-minded people significantly increases the likelihood of meeting someone special. If you don’t meet a potential date at these places, you will meet people willing to set you up with their fantastic and very available friend, co-worker, cousin, brother, etc.
