Reader Question:

I am a divorced woman over 63 and have really beautiful photos on Match.com. I do look much younger, but the men I write to never return my emails.

Is my age the big problem? Should I try a different site?

-Zoe (New York)

Dr. Wendy Walsh’s Answer:

Dear Zoe,

I see three obvious speed bumps in your search for a mate.

First, move over to OurTime.com for people over 50. It’s where peer men go to meet peer women.

Secondly, do not send messages to men on the dating sites. Instead, view a lot of profiles.

Remember, sperm chases egg at every age. The online sites know this and have set things up in a way to help.

When a woman simply views a man’s profile, he gets a list each day of all the women who have viewed him but not sent a message. That will pique his interest without making him feel you are an easy, desperate catch.

Finally, don’t only put up “really beautiful” photos. Unless you plan to bring professional lighting and Photoshop to every date, having unrealistic photos will cause big disappointments on the first meeting.

Oh, and one more thing, be very honest and specific about your values and life goals in your dating profile. It is better to attract one perfect person than to energize a pack of incompatible men.
