Online Dating
In an interview on “The Today Show,” Martha Stewart once admitted she almost tried online dating but didn’t finish her dating profile.
Later on, Stewart appeared on the show again to let the world know she was indeed going to join the Match dating network.
It’s been years since Stewart was in a long-term relationship. She admits to wanting to find someone to date.
I believe she should leave the boardroom out of the bedroom to attract a genuine guy.
Other celebrities who have joined online dating sites include: Halle Berry, Joan Rivers, Sinead O’Connor and Matthew Perry. Even Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger recently got engaged to her boyfriend whom she met on Plenty of Fish.
Here are my online dating tips for Martha Stewart:
There’s no point in lying about your age, Martha. Stewart says she emotionally feels 45 to 50, but everyone thinks they look young for their age in their online dating profiles.
Saying “I’m 71 but feel like 51” is ridiculous. It’s a cliche that could be a turn-off to a man. At 71, she can still find an age-appropriate man.
Martha might be interested in a younger man, but she shouldn’t become a cougar. Otherwise she might find herself dating a younger man who’s interested only in her money.
Julie’s recommendation: Martha should list the age parameters to search for a man who’s 65 to 80. She can decide if they appear youthful or look over the hill.
Martha said she wanted to use her real name on her Match profile so she could be authentic.
There’s nothing fun and flirty about using a first and last name, especially when you’re a well-known public figure and business mogul.
Julie’s recommendation: Real names are a bit boring and advertising as a public figure can be intimidating to a man.
Martha should create a catchy screen name like:
“At 71, one can’t sit back and wait for
emails to pour in from male suitors.”
Martha should post three to five photos on her profile. This isn’t a magazine shoot, nor is it Facebook. She should include a close-up, one in her garden, one in the kitchen and a full-length body shot.
She should NOT post photos of her mansions or a cover from her magazine, which would either intimidate a man or attract a gold digger. She should wear a colored outfit but avoid wearing orange.
Martha described her ideal date as someone who was “youngish” and “outdoorsish.” Shame on you, Martha.
Those words aren’t in the dictionary and your editor would slap your wrist. At 71, being too cutesy isn’t appealing.
Martha should list her hobbies, including whipping up award-winning recipes on the fly and spending time in her garden.
She could list the names of some of her favorite recipes so a man will imagine one of her home-cooked meals.
Martha shouldn’t list the titles of her own books she’s authored.
Instead, she should show a balance of magazines and books that talk about finance, food and decorating.
There’s no need for Martha to point out her checkered past. It’s public information and goes without saying that she shouldn’t be talking about her jail time.
Everyone deserves a second chance at love.
At 71, one can’t sit back and wait for emails to pour in from male suitors. This isn’t a job to give to an assistant. Martha should be writing her own emails and keep them short and sweet.
She should log on and do her own search. She should also check to see which profiles the site selects for her in her “Daily Matches.”
If she’s really serious about it, she should write to five men a day.
Just because she said she’d like to sleep with a man she shouldn’t create a scandal.
Martha should use discretion before taking off her clothes, as it could end up in the tabloids.
