Guys, if you’ve met someone new, or you’re in a long-term relationship and are looking for some great date ideas to spice things up a bit, then it’s time to get creative. Typically, women look to the man in their lives to come up with interesting and unique date ideas, which can be quite exhausting if you’re not a natural born romantic or if you happen to be low on funds.

Yes, yes, I know — you wish your gal would take the initiative every once in awhile and plan an evening for the two of you, but I’m the first to admit that women like to be catered to. Like my mama has always told me, “Nobody ever said life was fair.”

Nonetheless, you have a date Friday night and you admittedly need some help planning a memorable experience. Here are the top five dates women love to go on — made easy and inexpensive for the Average Joe:

1. Dinner and a movie.

It might sound cliche, but dinner and a movie is a classic, one most women find to be quite pleasurable. If you want to win bonus points, take her out for a unique dining experience — go for Indian or Mediterranean food, a sub spot known for huge hoagies or some place where they cut your tie off when you walk in the door.

If you want to win her over, take her to a chick-flick tearjerker. Trust me, you’ll survive an hour and a half of some mushy-gushy plotline.

2. Stargazing.

Do some research and find out where your city’s prime spot for looking at the stars is located. You may have to drive out of town to get away from the lights if you live in a metropolitan area, but it will be worth the trip.

Spend a couple bucks, bring some good wine and finger foods, and spread a blanket on the ground. Stay there a few hours.

Not only will you enjoy observing the vastness of the universe and some intimate conversation, but she’ll be amazed by your willingness to be mushy-gushy with her and you might even get lucky.

“Dating is supposed to be fun, no

matter what activity you choose.”

3. Dave and Busters.

Playing basketball or air hockey for bragging rights can provide hours upon hours of entertainment and is a great compromise. Any arcade will do. Men and women equally enjoy lots of laughter and tons of fun, and this gives you both an opportunity to get in touch with your inner child.

Be sure to put forth the effort to try and win her some silly trinket or stuffed animal. Mood rings — or any type of plastic piece of jewelry — are favorites among the ladies. They make us feel all mushy-gushy inside.

4. Art, history or science museums.

Women like smart men and really appreciate a man who appreciates culture. By taking her somewhere that will encourage intelligent and thought-provoking conversation, you both have the opportunity to learn more about how the other’s mind works.

If you really want to get mushy-gushy, she would love for you to hold her hand through the halls of the museum.

5. Community theater.

Every small town and city has some rinky-dink theater that puts on regular performances by amateur actors. This may not sound like your thing, but remember that this date isn’t about you. It’s about impressing the lady in your life and expanding your horizons.

You may have to sit through a dramatic interpretation of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” but it will probably only cost $20 for the two of you. Plus, you’ll probably be in for an extended mushy-gushy make-out session later in the evening if you select such a venue.

Another thing my mama always says is, “Show me a boring life and I’ll show you a boring person.” In other words, it is up to you to do whatever it takes to keep the love alive and to maintain some level of excitement in your lives.

After all, you wear the pants in this relationship, right? Besides, if you put forth the effort, chances are, your gal will follow suit and start planning some fun times for the two of you as well.

Dating is supposed to be fun, no matter what activity you choose. Getting to know one another is an ongoing process, regardless of how long you’ve been a couple. The process is meant to be about you and your girlfriend having a good time together.

After all, those mushy-gushy feelings won’t just show up on their own. You have to work for them, and I would venture to say that they’re worth all the fuss.
