The Short Version: In trying times, seeing photos of happy memories can help couples feel more connected. When those memories are stored on laptops or phones, people may forget about them. Mimeo Photos provides tools to help users easily turn those cherished memories into physical objects. Couples can make photobooks, wall decor, calendars, or other tangible objects of their relationship milestones and view whenever they want.
Allie Maltese, Director of PR and Marketing Communications at Mimeo Photos, likes to tell the story of a client who would make a photobook every year of the past year of his family’s life. On Christmas Eve, he would present the book to his family, and they would flip through a year of memories together.
Then, Christmas 2019 rolled around with a particularly important installment. His father-in-law had passed away earlier that year, and it would be the first holiday the family would spend without him.
The client chose the photos, put together the book, and Mimeo printed it. But, because of shipping difficulties outside of Mimeo’s control, delivery of the book by Christmas Eve was doubtful.
“It wasn’t going to arrive on time, so he was upset,” Allie told us.
The Mimeo Photos team jumped into action to ensure the client would receive it in time. They reprinted the book and overnight mailed it to his house — just in time for his annual holiday tradition.
“Even when someone has a problem that is out of our control, we do our best to solve it,” Allie said.
Mimeo Photos brings pictures and memories to life for individuals, couples, and families worldwide. That can be especially important during challenging times when people need reminders of their most important relationships.
In addition to its popular photobooks, Mimeo Photos offers many other projects users can customize for a special someone. Among Mimeo Photos products are calendars, ornaments, puzzles, and even blankets that incorporate photos of some of the user’s relationship milestones.
“Receiving something customized for you is special. It has thought and intention behind it, and you can tell somebody spent the time thinking about you,” said Allie.
Mimeo Photos grew out of a parent company that printed materials exclusively for Apple users, but the company recently expanded beyond macOS.
“Everyone knows that Apple products are quality, and they’re designed for people who care about premium products,” Allie said.
In 2017, Mimeo created a direct-to-user photo printing app that allowed people to design their own projects. Mimeo Photos was initially available as a Mac app extension, so only those with Mac desktops and laptops could create projects.
Mimeo Photos launched its web interface in the summer of 2020, and now, anyone with an internet connection can design an array of high-quality products.
When the company launched, it met the rigorous standards of Apple, so users can trust that its products will be high-quality.
“Our users care about photo products. You’re getting the same quality that Apple had, and everything is handcrafted,” Allie said.
Many Mimeo Photos customers continue coming back because they love photography and want to ensure their printed products are as polished as possible. Allie said that another major demographic is families who want to remind their loved ones of the memorable times they’ve spent together.
“With everything going on this year, many people have had to spend time away from their loved ones. Our products help people feel more connected from far away,” Allie told us.
Customers who want to make a Mimeo Photos gift for their significant other have many options.
The company’s most popular products are its photobooks, which come in softcover or hardcover. Users can choose as many photos as they want to include. They can also customize the book with more than 45 themes and 55-plus backgrounds.
“Photobooks are our bread and butter. They’re absolutely gorgeous,” Allie said.
Users can even personalize the dust jacket with a heartfelt message to their partner that reflects a milestone in their relationship.
“Say a husband is giving his wife a photobook about her pregnancy. He could write a sentimental note in the front cover of the dust jacket. Or he could personalize the spine of the book,” Allie said.
Another way couples can display their favorite photos is with a piece of wall decor. Mimeo Photos offers canvas, metal, and acrylic versions that look stunning, and users can choose from a wide range of sizes.
“I’ve seen people print photography, and I’ve seen them print family photos,” Allie said.
Some popular holiday gift options include puzzles and ornaments. Printing a favorite photo on a puzzle is an option that has been a hit during the quarantine.
“I had one made for my son. The pieces are larger, so it’s easier for them. If we go back into lockdown, at least we have something to keep ourselves entertained,” Allie said.
Many couples also print their favorite relationship memory of the year on a holiday ornament made of wood, acrylic, or metal. Then, they can relive that moment every year they hang it on their tree together.
2020 has been a busy year for Mimeo Photos — for many reasons. Not only has the company expanded its platform, but it has also rolled out more photo project options than ever before.
Users appreciate the company’s high-quality products and its commitment to customer service.
“I’ve gotten calendars and Christmas cards from Mimeo and have been completely satisfied with both products. Photos are sharp and the colors are true to the originals. Even photos that were not optimal came out good,” Steve wrote in an online testimonial.
Another user, Luke, said: “The photobook I made turned out great. Clear, vibrant photos that I made into a keepsake book. I ordered 4 copies and I will give them for holiday gifts. Can’t wait to hand them out!”
The Mimeo Photos expansion turned out to be perfect timing for couples and families, too. The COVID-19 pandemic has kept many loved ones apart for most of the year and they miss that connection. Reminding loved ones of the best times can be more important than ever.
When people create a photo project for a loved one, every time they look at their photobook, or flip to a new page on a calendar, they’ll think of that time spent together.
Tangible photo projects encourage couples to enjoy photos of their happy relationship memories instead of burying them on their digital devices.
“You spend so much time at home, you might as well look at things that make you happy and the moments that bring you joy,” Allie said.
