The Short Version: If you’re looking for an exciting date night, cooking authentic Indian food with your partner could help spice things up. PureIndianFoods.com helps people create traditional recipes at home using its high-quality ingredients. The site allows visitors to purchase the specialized products they need to make delicious recipes, including kitchari, curry, and butter chicken. The family-owned business sources the ingredients from local farmers, so customers can stock their pantries with staples to enjoy fresh Indian cuisine anytime.

People from India often express their love through cooking. If they are concerned about you, they may make you a meal. When they offer you more food at the table, they’re showing you that they care — in a most delicious way.

Whether they hail from Punjab, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, or Gujarat, Indians take special pride in making traditional dishes from scratch. The spices and flavors in the country’s cuisine are some of the tastiest in the world. That makes cooking Indian food an exciting and fun undertaking for couples on stay-at-home date nights.

Many home cooks think that Indian food is difficult to prepare, but that doesn’t need to be the case. With high-quality ingredients and proven recipes, anyone can try their hand at cooking traditional meals, including kitchari, curry, and butter chicken.

“Indian food can be intimidating to American cooks, and we’re really deliberate about taking that intimidation away,” said David Emery, a Sales Team Member for Pure Indian Foods. “We want to provide easy recipes and fresh ingredients so your initial experience will be positive, and you’ll want to cook even more Indian food.”

Pure Indian Foods is a family-owned online grocery store filled with mindfully curated ingredients from the top suppliers throughout India and the world. The business ensures customers can create delicious dishes and fill their pantries with the spices, ghee, a clarified butter product, and other necessary ingredients to make meals easily.

A Fifth-Generation Family Business That’s Continually Innovating

Courtney Polivka, the Pure Indian Foods Director of Branding and Marketing, said the company is run by the fifth generation of a family that began making specialty ghee and selling cooking ingredients more than 130 years ago.

The current owners, Sandeep Agarwal and his wife Nalini, began focusing on selling the best ghee when their son having chronic health issues, including chest congestion and asthma. Sandeep studied ayurvedic traditions and went through the research on organics, such as raw milk and ghee, and their importance on health. The family started incorporating these foods into their diets, and they cut out sweets, among other dietary adjustments.

Sandeep decided to bring organic, grass-fed ghee to the market. He went from being a computer scientist in NYC to a business owner and herbalist practicing Ayurveda. As a result, Pure Indian Foods became a pioneer.

“As for company culture, it really is like a family,” she said. “We put health before anything else. All of our products are for helping health and quality of life. People meet and connect over food, and their health is impacted by what they are eating.”

Pure Indian Foods focuses on procuring the best ingredients from local Indian farmers.

It’s a small company, but employees will be encouraged to meditate, have a cup of tea, and, of course, eat good food to help them feel refreshed. Everyone who works at the company regularly communicates with each other, so new ideas are quickly shared and encouraged.

Because the family-run business is so small, it’s easy to listen to feedback and add or adjust products for customers. For example, a mother asked them if their tamarind paste was gluten-free because her son was intolerant.

The company quickly tested the product and confirmed that the company has the only organic, gluten-free tamarind paste on the market in the United States.

Traditional Indian Cooks and Food Lovers Can Stock Up On Products

Pure Indian Foods has a broad base of customers, and the majority enjoy cooking traditional Indian cuisine for their families. Others who turn to the online grocery store simply love food and are interested in the different tastes that can fit into their lifestyles. For example, many people who are into yoga also enjoy cooking Indian specialties.

“Another huge segment of our customer base is moms who are trying to feed their babies,” David said.

Even novices can prepare impressive meals when they use high-quality ingredients. That’s something Sandeep and his team refuse to sacrifice in the name of profit or growth.

The company maintains personal relationships with the farmers who grow and supply its products.

“Sandeep is so passionate about his ingredients. The whole spices are carefully selected,” David said. “Working directly with local farmers is a big deal for him. He tries to empower local farmers. He believes in relationships and working locally with people.”

The company strives to sell the freshest, cleanest, and most delicious ingredients on the market. If a farmer stops supplying a specific ingredient, for example, Pure Indian Foods will search far and wide for a replacement of the same quality before they restock it in the online store.

One of its most popular products is Hing, which is also known as asafoetida. This dried resin from a plant in the fennel family is used in many tasty Indian recipes, and the company sells what it calls the “best hing ever.”

However, if you want to buy it, you’ll have to be patient. Pure Indian Foods has a consistent supplier, but, because it’s in such high demand, it goes out of stock often.

Pure Indian Foods: Curry in a Hurry and Special Spice Blends Simplify Cooking for All

Pure Indian Foods doesn’t want anyone to be intimidated by the process of cooking delicious, authentic Indian food. That’s why the company has also created some products to make it easier and more fun for beginners.

It offers Indian Spice Starter Kits so people can fill their pantries with the most common ingredients for Indian meals. The kits come with six different spices, including two popular blends, as well as a recipe booklet with delicious meal ideas.

“You just need a jar of ghee and fresh veggies, and you can make two to three dinners out of one kit,” Courtney said. “And we’re going to add more recipes and make more videos for it.”

Another popular product is called “Curry in a Hurry.” The concentrated curry paste can be used to make impressive dishes at home without having to take the time to prepare curry from scratch.

“You just take the Curry in a Hurry, a spoonful or two, depending on how spicy, and add it to vegetables and it’s done. It’s super simple,” David said. “That is our secret weapon whenever we go to conferences or conventions. We get a hot plate and add vegetables and Curry in a Hurry. People flock to our table because it smells so good.”

Ingredients make all the difference when it comes to cooking Indian food, and those dishes can show just how much you care for your partner or loved ones.

“My friends and family think I’m an amazing cook, but so much of it is using quality ingredients,” Courtney said. “When I use good ingredients, it makes a huge difference.”
