Online Dating
When you sign up for Match, you no longer have to come up with a clever username for your profile. The dating site asks all its members to go by their first names, effectively taking the mystery and sexy69 jokes out of the online dating scene.
If, for whatever reason, you want to change your username — which should be your real name, but old-school users may still have to update that — we can show you how to do it.
Match allows you to change just about anything about your profile and subscription at any time, and it only takes a minute. Here’s how it’s done:
This may be pretty obvious, but the first thing you want to do is log into Match. No matter where you are on the site or app (your profile, the Matches page, your messages, etc.), you can look in the top-right corner and see a little graphic that looks like a cog. Click or tap on it, and you’ll be taken to your Account Settings. Here, in addition to changing your username, you can do things like adjust your email preferences, location, or subscription type.
Scroll or look down the page a little bit, and you’ll see the words “Sign Up Information” on the left-hand side. Click on those words, and Match will then ask you to provide your birthday (month, day, and year) and password to verify you are who you say you are.
You’ll also have to check a box that says “I’m not a robot.” This is just to confirm that it’s actually you who’s making these changes, not a scammer. Safety first!
The next step is to decide what you want your new username to be. Again, Match has stopped letting people choose any username they want — for safety reasons — so it should be either your first name or a nickname. Do not include your last name. If you put in something that’s not a name, you could risk being reported or even removed from the membership base. At the very least, you’ll have to provide documentation to verify that sexydawg is your name.
Once you’re happy with your new Match.com username, all you have to do is click “Continue,” and all of your changes will be saved. If you ever want to change your username again, go through the same process we just took you through. If, for some reason, you’re experiencing problems, you can always contact Match via the contact form or by emailing customercare@support.match.com.
Match strives to take all the work off its members’ shoulders, even when it comes to editing or updating profiles and personal information. You can quickly change your username, orientation, password, and other profile details by going to your Settings. Just remember to always be yourself and make sure you give Match all the information it needs to set you up on dates. Happy dating!
