The Short Version: Everybody wants to be part of a community that celebrates their interests. Geek Meet Club is the one-stop platform for geeks to meet, chat, and find great connections. We talked to the site’s founder about its social and community-building features that help you get your geek on.

I’m the child of a geek, and, like most children of geeks, became somewhat of a geek myself.

My dad’s interests span the gamut– U.S. history (specifically the Vietnam War), Tolkien, and Magic the Gathering, just to name a few. Since he was busy being our dad, I don’t think he found much time to indulge himself in these things, but he definitely exposed them to us.

I remember being 6 and full of uncontrollable fear the first time I saw Peter Jackson’s Gollum, fearing the freakish CGI-enhanced humanoid was going to creep his way into my room at night and take a bite of me like he took a bite of that fish in the cave (iykyk).

I’ve gone through phases of interests like anyone else, but one has stuck persistently. I’ve been playing the Sims since I was a middle schooler, and while I refuse to tell anyone the exact number of hours I have logged on the Sims 4, it’s somewhere above 5,000.

I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the game and its DLCs. For any clothing or build item, I can tell you what pack it came from and the year it was released. I can tell you about the inspiration behind each pack and the new features that came with it, plus the community drama that came with its release.

Let’s just say I was there when the Sims 4 history book was written.

Dennie founded the platform to give geeks a place to make connections.

I think everybody has a little geek in them, but true geeks can love and know a thing in a way others may not be able to relate to. When geeks get together to mingle and chat, amazing conversations and connections happen.

The social platform Geek Meet Club is one of the best places to find those connections.

We talked to Dennie Smith, the founder of Geek Meet Club. The platform is a place for you to find fellow geeks and nerds who love their interests as much as you love yours. Dennie created the site on her own from the ground up and packed it full of features that make it easy to find your geek.

“I thought it would be really cool to set up a site for people like me,” Dennie said. “And I didn’t just want it to be a dating site. A lot of the other geek apps and sites are very stereotyped and outdated. I really wanted to create a community where people felt at home.”

Dennie’s Inspiration Behind Geek Meet Club

The way Dennie sees it, being a geek or a nerd is defined by having interests that are outside the mainstream. A lot of the time, these interests can be computer gaming, sci-fi movies or books, or historical literature. But there’s no one interest that qualifies you to be a geek or a nerd.

“My absolute passion is military history,” Dennie told us. “Specifically both World Wars. When people meet me and see me, it’s not something they necessarily expect, but I’m beyond passionate.”

Passion is the thing all geeks and nerds have in common. Dennie, like many self-proclaimed geeks, has spent countless hours watching documentaries, reading books, and even traveling abroad to learn more about World War I and II.

During one of her trips, Dennie had the opportunity to meet and mingle with people who shared her interest in military history. She told us the experience was transformational.

Geek Meet is a place where your interests— especially the geekiest ones— will be embraced.

“I met up with a group on one of my trips, and they were the same as me and it was so amazing to spend a weekend with people who were as passionate as I was. Just chatting about our interests made me realize it would be so cool to set up a site where people could do the same thing.”

Dennie knew she wanted to make her platform versatile for the needs of different users. Some might flock to the platform to find community, while others may be looking for a little bit more.

She also wanted to make her site a clean break from the geek and nerd sites of the past, which tended not to be created by geeks themselves. Dennie wanted to make a safe and fun place for her community to gather, free from judgment.

“To me, being a geek is about being passionate and knowledgeable about something,” Dennie said. “You don’t look a particular way or have a particular job.”

Geeks come in all shapes, sizes, and interests, and Geek Meet Club’s features reflect that diversity. The platform accepts everyone irrespective of where they sit on the “geek o meter.”

Dennie has an amazing geek on the team, and Stephanie handles most of the blogs, often interviewing various personalities from geek-adjacent circles.

Whatever geeky thing you’re into, Geek Meet Club will embrace it. Gone are the days of having to shy away from your real interests in online spaces.

Geeky Groups for Any Interest

Geek Meet Club is a labor of love for Dennie. “It’s only been a year and it’s just me,” she told us. “No investors, a small team. It’s just me and my backing. I work seven days a week on the platform.”

Right now, Geek Meet Club is a website, but Dennie said she’s in the process of getting it on the App Store and on Google Play. She said it’s a complicated process, but she’s excited about expanding the platform’s reach. For the time being, you can enjoy all of Geek Meet’s features on the website.

Getting started is easy– just add the basics! When Dennie was designing the profile features, she wanted to move away from the overcomplicated and algorithmically-driven aspects of mainstream dating apps.

Whatever you’re into, Geek Meet Club wants to be a part of it.

Since Geek Meet Club is community-focused, it didn’t need the same functionality as dating sites. Dennie decided to focus profiles around why users come to the site in the first place: their interests.

“To me, the most important thing is shared interests. I wanted to go back to the basics,” she explained. “So when you join, you must add your fabulous passions , and those are front and center on your profile.”

Shared interests are the jumping-off points for you to make connections with other people in the app. When I find someone who plays the Sims with the same intensity I do, I feel a sense of camaraderie right away. I think a lot of geeks can relate to the feeling.

“It’s that butterflies feeling when you get to talk to someone about your passions and they get it and can reciprocate,” Dennie said. She’s aiming to create that feeling for all of her users. On Geek Meet Club, you can make friends, start conversations, and join groups.

You’ll find groups for everything from anime and Harry Potter to cosplay, dating, and more.

Find Friends, Community, & Romance

Since Geek Meet Club is focused on community building, you can put different icons on your profile depending on the kind of connection you’re searching for.

“Geek Meet Club lets you date, find friends, and network,” Dennie said. “It’s up to you what you do. If you’re there for dating, there’s a little heart icon. For friendship, it’s a hand icon. This makes it easy to tell what other people are looking for.”

Besides making connections, you can also browse Geek Meet Club’s blogs and quizzes. The site’s blog is jam-packed with fun articles about everything from Star Wars to date night ideas.

Even though Geek Meet Club isn’t entirely focused on finding romance, Dennie incorporated resources into the app that support daters.

“At the moment, we have three resident dating and relationship confidence counselors,” Dennie said. “You can get a free 15-minute consultation with them and then decide if you want to take it further. They hang around in a couple of our groups to give free advice.”

You can also tune in for one of Geek Meet Club’s live events. The events are held virtually every month and Dennie told us next month’s event is going to be a drawing event. “The whole point is connecting people and showing them this is a safe place where we’re all the same,” she said.

If you’ve been looking for an inclusive online community where you and your interests will be celebrated, look no further than Geek Meet Club. It’s a platform that was created for and by geeks– doesn’t get much better than that.

“There are so many wonderful connections to be made online,” Dennie said. “We’re not trying to be trendy or something we’re not– we’re getting people in a safe place where they can connect and gush over what they want to gush over.”
