Reader Question:

I have been with my boyfriend for four years now. I love him, but I wonder what it would be like to be single. Is that normal?

-Hailee (Michigan)

Gina Stewart’s Answer:

This is very normal. People in happy, committed relationships wonder what it would be like to be single. Just like single people wonder what it would be like to be married and little kids wonder what it would be like to be a unicorn.

Your mind is a naturally curious and imaginative vehicle. Just because you have a thought doesn’t make you bad for having it.

Can the thought lead to other more dangerous thoughts or be a signal of problems? Potentially. Be honest with yourself and identify why you’re having those thoughts.

It’s easy to feel like the grass is greener on the other side, but sometimes the grass is greenest where you water it.
