Our AfroRomance review can help black and biracial singles get their bearings on the dating site and find the person of their dreams.

As of 2015, 17% of couples in the United States were interracial, which is an all-time high. In 1967, that number was 3%. Interracial dating is a growing trend in the U.S., especially among young people, and many niche dating sites have sprung up to support single people who are open to and even excited about dating someone of a different race.

AfroRomance is an interracial dating site that aims to prove that love is colorblind and that love can happy anytime between any two people, no matter what race or ethnicity they are. This online dating network has appealed primarily to black singles and white singles who want to date black singles — but its diverse following includes every race, creed, culture, and nationality.

One drawback about AfroRomance is that it’s not as large and popular as some of the bigger name dating sites, so we’ve listed a few alternative dating sites that can also facilitate interracial dating and provide singles with more diverse date prospects.

AfroRomance Review | 3 Alternative Options

AfroRomance: Affordable & Easy to Use But Not a Lot of Standout Features (3.9/5.0 Rating)

Founded in 2003, AfroRomance has a ton of good things going for it, but let’s start with the registration process. It takes about five minutes at the most to become a member, and you’ll start off by providing your gender, the gender you’re interested in, what kind of relationship you’re looking for (pen pals, friends, dates, or a long-term relationship or marriage), and your ethnicity (white, black, Asian, Pacific Islander, East Indian, Native American, mixed, or other).

Next, you’ll type your email and password, or you can log in through Facebook to speed up the process even more. AfroRomance then asks for your first and last name (the latter of which won’t show up on your profile or in searches), date of birth, country, state, and city, and nickname. The last step before you can begin browsing is to describe yourself. The site encourages users to mention their hobbies, lifestyle habits, and dating preferences. Adding a photo is optional, but AfroRomance says it’ll boost your response rate by 10 times.

Creating an account on AfroRomance should only take you about five minutes or so, and it’s super simple to specify your wants and needs.

You can then finish filling out your profile. The system will show you how far along you are in the process (e.g., 27%). Or you can take a look around. At the top of your dashboard, you’ll see sections for Search, Inbox, Favorites, Views, and My Profile. In the middle, you’ll see popular members, below that, you’ll see members who were recently online, and on the right, you’ll see Recommended Members and advice articles.

AfroRomance offers several filters for a quick search, including Online Members, New Members, Recently Active, Most Popular, Upcoming Birthdays, and Update Profiles. You should also try a custom search by listing your preferred race, gender, age, and location. In your match results, you’ll see people’s nicknames, ages, locations, and what they put in the Describe Yourself section.

Once someone catches your eye, check out their profile for more information. You’ll also be able to add them to your Favorites list, send them a virtual gift, like a rose, and see your horoscope compatibility.

Everything we’ve just mentioned is 100% free. If you want access to more features (such as sending and receiving unlimited messages, getting unlimited chat rooms minutes, and seeing who viewed your profile and/or favorited you), you’ll want to upgrade your AfroRomance account.

A six-month membership will cost you $69.95, which adds up to less than $3 a week. For three months, it’ll cost you $39.50, and for one month, it’ll cost you $19.85. As you can probably tell, choosing a longer membership will get you more of a deal.

AfroRomance has a clean interface and tons of traditional features to help you find the ideal match.

If you have any issues with the site, customer support can be reached via phone, chat, and email. Also, if you have any issues outside of the site, the blog has a slew of helpful articles that tackle a variety of topics — including “Do’s and Don’ts for Your First Date,” “Watch Out for These Red Flag Conversation Starts,” and “Guys, Don’t Be an Interracial Dating Lech!” You can also find inspiration by reading the numerous success stories on the site. Anita and Toby met on AfroRomance.com and are now engaged.

“Anita proposed in the middle of the night. My future is bright and rosy,” Toby told AfroRomance. Anita gushed: “I smile more. I also manage my time better, to create more time for us. Once you find the right person, everything else becomes easy.”

While AfroRomance has its upsides, it does have a couple of downsides — one being that it doesn’t have unique features that make it stand out on its own. We’ve also seen complaints about technical issues.

One AfroRomance member on PissedConsumer.com wrote about the problems he or she had with the search function: “I can’t search for more than one race at a time. I can’t save the search for a particular age range. I can’t narrow search to my area.”

3 Alternative Dating Websites

Overall, AfroRomance is a decent interracial dating site, but don’t you think you deserve the best? Actually, three dating sites come to mind that are perfect for singles interested in interracial dating. We’ll kick things off with Match.com.

Match has the largest audience of black singles than any other dating site — with more than 1.2 million visiting the site each month. In total, the site has more than 30 million members of all races. In addition, Match has the highest success rate of any dating site — it’s led to the most dates, relationships, and marriages.
