Women's Dating
The Short Version: Women with smoother, more even complexions often feel more confident when date nights roll around. MUDMASKY helps foster that feeling with its innovative skincare products, including masks, serums, and other natural products. The company aims to manufacture items with the highest-quality ingredients available. And the seasonal masks, formulated for colder winters and hotter summers, are the first of their kind.
It may seem like there’s a breakthrough skincare product emerging every few weeks that promises a smoother complexion or fewer wrinkles. But according to Majid Mousavi, the CEO of Dutch skincare company MUDMASKY, we learned everything there is to know about caring for skin hundreds of years ago.
Teas, herbs, and oils have been used to maintain healthy skin for centuries, but many modern manufacturers rely on unnatural or harsh chemicals to produce results.
Majid said he started learning the truth about skincare products in 2015 after a chance encounter at an airport gift shop. He was about to buy his girlfriend an item when Dr. Lloyd Diamond, a Swiss dermatologist, encouraged him to put it down.
“He said, ‘I wouldn’t buy this if I were you.’ He told me he’d worked in the skincare industry for 30 years and explained that he wouldn’t recommend anything at the counter,” Majid told us.
Inspired by that first meeting, the two decided to collaborate on MUDMASKY, which combined Majid’s business acumen with Dr. Diamond’s skincare expertise. The company was based on transparency because consumers increasingly wanted to know what they were putting on their skin.
MUDMASKY began developing skincare products that used straightforward, time-tested ingredients.
“We decided to make skincare products easy to understand by choosing ingredients that had been used for ages, like tea, herbs, and Moroccan oil. These are ingredients that everybody knows and that have been proven effective,” said Majid.
The company produces only masks, serums, and hair care products.
MUDMASKY sources raw ingredients from all over the world and processes them in a medical-grade factory in Amsterdam, ensuring that each product is mixed correctly.
“We’re proud of every product we make,” Majid told us.
MUDMASKY appeals to women — and men — who want to look their best every day and on special occasions, including dates.
“Our main customer is mid- to high-income women between 23 and 38. They have busy lifestyles and like to treat themselves with high-quality skincare and haircare products,” Majid told us.
Most of the company’s clients are American, though it attracts many from the U.K., Germany, and the rest of Europe.
MUDMASKY is particularly proud of its seasonal skincare products, which first launched in 2020. The idea behind them is that customers need different masks for each season: winter, spring, summer, and fall.
“It didn’t make sense that you put the same moisturizer on your face in the winter as in the summer. In winter, you need a thicker product, and in the summer, you need a lighter product. We were the first in the world to introduce this idea of seasonal skincare,” said Majid.
The company also recently introduced its Aftermask Vitamin Serum. MUDMASKY customers kept asking what they should use after applying a mask. They often thought they should apply moisturizer, though moisturizing after a mask can block pores.
“Because we had so many people asking, we developed a product that you can use after a face mask,” Majid said. “Our company policy is, instead of making products and hoping they sell, we use customer feedback to make the customers what they ask for.”
MUDMASKY’s other best-selling products include the Hair Mask, Scalp Treatment & Miracle Shampoo, Facial Detox Purifying Recovery Mask, and Sleep Repair Renewal Nourishing Mask.
MUDMASKY products can help improve women’s confidence, so they are free to be themselves on dates. That mission has helped the company build its reputation. Recently, the company collaborated with a major beauty company in the U.K. for more widespread distribution. MUDMASKY also worked with Ipsy, an American subscription box company, to expand its following in the United States.
Out of the company’s many customers, a few stand out for Majid. One is a 21-year-old woman who had struggled with acne since she was 16.
“She tried everything, including medical care. She used our Facial Detox Mask, and after two months, her acne was cleared up. She was more confident about her skin and was excited about dating again,” said Majid.
Another testimonial came from a woman who wrote MUDMASKY about her fiancé. He worked long hours in a factory, and his eyes often swelled up because of the heat.
“He feels like he’s aging far too quickly. He’s worried that by the time we are married, he will look a lot older in our wedding photos. I could see it was affecting him,” the woman wrote to MUDMASKY.
She decided to give her husband the Serum-Infused Eye Mask to put on the bags under his eyes.
“He was absolutely gobsmacked at how effective it was after just one use. Your product has given him a massive confidence boost and has stopped him worrying about the wedding so much. So for that, thank you. This year, I hope I get to marry the man of my dreams … with his less baggy eyes,” the wife-to-be wrote in her testimonial.
Majid said he has learned more about skincare than he ever expected between the day he met his dermatologist business partner in the airport to when he developed MUDMASKY’s natural skincare line.
Now, MUDMASKY wants to provide more information about skincare, including other factors that influence skin health.
“It’s not skincare first, and then other things later. Skincare is the last step. Your hormones and diet can play a role, as can your genetics,” Majid told us.
When singles want to improve their dating confidence, they can turn to MUDMASKY as part of their routine but should aim to eat healthier, too. Majid also said people should aim to accept their skin because they can only alter it so much.
At the same time, he encourages clients to understand their skin pH levels. An ideal skin pH is 5.5, which is slightly acidic.
“That’s why all our products are pH balanced and not pH neutral. Your skin should be balanced,” he told us.
MUDMASKY is working on several new products with that ideal balance in mind. The first is a pH cleansing mask that replaces a typical night cleanser. Cleansers often strip oils from the skin, and the goal of the pH cleansing mask is to maintain healthy facial oils during sleep.
MUDMASKY continues to design natural products that make clients feel more comfortable in their skin — whether or not they have a date on the books.
“Our mission is to make skincare products that customers are asking for. That is our goal,” said Majid.
