Are there any good free online dating sites?
-Emily B. (Utah)
Did you know that TANSTAAFL is the abbreviation for “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”? The phrase originated in the late 1800s when saloon owners would offer “free” lunch to patrons who purchased at least one drink. The expectation was that anyone who came in would end up buying more than one drink – thus, TANSTAAFL. But when it comes to free online dating sites, there really is such a thing as a free lunch. Sure, sites like eHarmony and Match.com get most of the credit for spawning lifelong partnerships. But don’t discount completely free sites like OkCupid, Plenty of Fish (POF) and Spark.com. This type of site relies on advertising and Google AdSense to pay for the service rather than membership fees. Just remember, in most cases, you get what you pay for. Anyone is allowed on a non-paying dating site, so be more careful about screening the men you allow into your online world.
