With decades of experience, some of the most popular dating apps have essentially become household names. It’s unlikely that you can hold a conversation about dating without hearing examples like Tinder or Hinge. Each of these apps has features and functions that cater to a mass user base — but not all are as inclusive as they could be.

This is where LGBTQ+ dating apps like Taimi come in.

Taimi logo

Taimi, founded in 2017 by CEO Alex Pasykov, serves as both a dating app and social network for the queer community. Taimi has gained more than 18 million users since its launch, and it continues to grow in notoriety as the team makes adjustments and delivers new features based on user feedback.

According to a 2022 survey by Pew Research, 51% of LGB adults in the US said they have tried using dating sites or apps. This speaks to the need for more inclusive — and safe — online dating options for people under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. Taimi seeks to provide just that in an effort to form community and promote equality.

More Than 18 Million Users Mingle on the Platform

Although the app may be newer than some other options, Taimi has quickly risen among the ranks of LGBTQ+ dating apps. The platform has more than 18 million registered users, and its name is certainly spreading across the community. In fact, Taimi was featured on the Scarlet Tour (starring powerhouse artists like Doja Cat and Ice Spice) in late 2023.

Taimi users have access to a bounty of customization options and helpful features while using the app. When building your profile, you can choose several “vibe” options to describe your interests and what you’re looking for — these diverse options include monogamy and polyamory, domination and submission, and even vibes such as technocore or gothic to get specific about your aesthetic.

taimi app available across the world
Taimi is a popular choice among LGBTQ+ daters across the globe.

Once you set up a profile, you can use the app’s Discovery section to send likes to other users who interest you. If you’re really feeling someone’s profile, you can even send a “Rainbow like” to let them know. The app’s basic version allows you to sort through profiles, send likes, and view initial messages in your inbox. While Taimi’s basic version is completely free, the site also offers several premium options for daters who want an upgraded experience.

The three paid subscription tiers Taimi currently offers are Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each membership type offers different features and perks, and the cost varies slightly.

Taimi Bronze is $4.99 a month, Taimi Silver is $6.99 a month, and Taimi Gold is $9.99 a month. Each tier allows you an increasing amount of likes and Rainbow likes per day, the ability to Rollback if you accidentally swipe past a profile you liked, and you can also view who visited or liked your profile before you swipe.

If you’re looking for friends or to plug in to the LGBTQ+ community in your area, Taimi also has community groups available for people to join. These function as social networks and allows users to share events, network with like-minded people, and plan outings together.

Community Rules Set Boundaries & Keep People Safe

It may be 2024, but there is still a way to go in the dating world when it comes to embracing LGBTQ+ folks. On queer dating apps such as Taimi, however, queer and trans people can rest assured that not only are they safe while they swipe, but that their identity and interests will be supported.

Taimi’s community rules and safety features represent how important inclusivity and user privacy are to their team.

taimi safety features
Taimi safety features allow users to only share as much as they’re comfortable with.

Some of the app’s most impactful safety features are screenshot protection and stealth mode. Taking screenshots of other profiles in the app is disabled, so members will not be outed or otherwise exposed by others. This prevents both bullying and potential privacy or safety breaches.

For people still exploring their identity or those who are still not out publicly, stealth mode allows you to hide certain aspects of your profile until you’ve actually liked other users — only they will be able to see your information.

Taimi’s community rules include the prohibition of hate speech, violence, sexual harassment, catfishing, and other behaviors that other dating apps often overlook. Their moderation team works hard to monitor for scam profiles, and those that otherwise break community rules, and reporting and blocking features allow users to protect themselves from unsavory actions.

The Taimi App Sees Positive Reviews From Members

Taimi is certainly up-and-coming in the queer dating world, as evidenced by its 38,000-plus five-star reviews on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Many members express how much they appreciate Taimi’s ease of use, their safety features, and the helpfulness of their support team.

“I had such a good experience with their live support! They are very helpful people; I like this app a lot.”

Yana F., Taimi user

With their wide array of community groups and the option to use the app to make platonic connections, Taimi can help you settle into a new place or make connections with like-minded friends. One user shared that Taimi helped them feel at home after a big move.

“I came to NYC without any contacts a couple months ago and have found a good circle of people. It’s also easy to put the profile together so you specify what you’re looking for.”

Akash N., Taimi user

Others appreciate that the app doesn’t just feel like another hookup or dating site — it really is social in nature, and has helped queer and trans people form meaningful relationships.

taimi 5-star reviews
LGBTQ+ daters appreciate Taimi for being a diverse and accepting platform.

Another user left a five-star review praising Taimi for being an app where users can find other users who are looking for authentic connections.

“It works like a social media app with its Facebook-like scheme. I am very satisfied with it because I am finally able to find someone that I really like. We’ve been dating for more than a month now and recently became official.”

Dylan, Taimi user

Plenty of additional success stories have been shared in reviews, as well. One user is transgender and lives in a conservative area, so he tried Taimi as a safe and welcoming option to meet other LGBTQ+ singles.

“I never expected to meet him, but after hours of silly conversations, late night phone calls, and time spent with someone I think is really amazing. I’ve got my first serious boyfriend in a healthy and non-toxic relationship. I’m so much happier and can’t stop smiling.”

These reviews all make one thing clear: Taimi is an inclusive and safe space for queer people seeking real connections. With a hands-on support team and an abundance of user-friendly features, the app is a great option for LGBTQ+ people looking for friendships and romance.
